Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

About one year ago I helped install a 2kw Exmork mill at my neighbors house on a 75 foot tower we did not have the installation manual we ended up mounting the tail in the wrong position this we found out after watching the mill operate for awhile. Anyways my neighbor had it grid tided with a SMA Sunnyboy inverter seems the Sunnyboy didn't get along with the Exmork mill and it brunt out some coils so he says. We have since replaced the Exmork with a South West Skystream 3.7 and all is well.
The other neighbor now has the Exmork mill in his shop and is considering installing it at his place he's asking me to gather information on this mill. You mentioned that you were grid tided. I have three question ask you if you don't mind me asking.
1. Do you know what type of grid tie inverter will work with the Exmork?
2. If he decides to charge batteries what make and or type of charge controller should he use?
3. Which way does the tail mount? (From your photos looks as if it mounts from left to right looking from the rear of the mill)

I have seen an Exmork up close, too. My neighbour installed a 5kW model last year. I got to look it over before it was mounted on the tower. It was only this summer that it was operating properly for him. The machine was delivered with minimal information and no installation instructions. The controller board burned out rather quickly, due to the lack of installation instructions, as it finally turned out.

After speaking with the people who installed the turbine, I doubt that it was lack of experience or knowledge on their part, but more the lack of information from Exmork. North Americans take it for granted, perhaps, that when a product is made, a document is prepared by the manufacturer to ensure its proper use!

It required an excessive amount of labour, repairs and adjustment to make the machine work properly. Did you have this difficulty?

If it had been my mill or I had paid for it and it showed up without an operating and or installation manual I would have been on the phone raising some hell for sure!
Going off of memory it did not have any wire strain relief so we had to source a Chinese finger for that and of course had to make it fit. There is a band brake in the mill head to manually lock the mill with a cable that runs down the center of the tower with a hand cranked winch. The winch did not bolt on properly. Lets not forget we did not know which way the tail mounted. . All in all not to bad I guess. If the people installing this mill did not have any mechanical skills the mill probably wouldn't have left the ground. I think the biggest thing was no manual. After installation one would have to guess on how the the controller is operated?
The mill is definitely built heavy. It does take two men or one big guy to handle it. It didn't spend to much time in the air but I would have to believe that would survive well.
