Hi Glenn It just shows there is good luck in bad luck keeps the repair men in a job, I was in the middle of turning everything when the lightning struck. Getting a bit old to run around and do it quickly. i should have had the inverter running as it is underground wired to the house so lightning doesn't get to it so easily as the big lightning collectors that run everywhere. Cant trust the weather man to be accurate unless they predict fine apart from scattered showers. All the best Bob Foolin Around |

Toowoomba and surounding areas hit by flash flooding yesterday. I have family and friends there, all OK, but there have been several deaths and more missing. In the valley whole houses have been washed away. ![]() ![]() http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/01/11/3110113.htm http://www.abc.net.au/news/photos/2011/01/11/3110183.htm Hoping everyone is safe. I know many of the folks in here seem to despise IRC - but Bruce was in irc.albury.net.au #aussiere and irc.otherpower.com an hour ago and is fine. |

Hi All All well here we are isolated for a while but above the main flood level, down in the valley it has been bad and all the water from the Lockyer valley is heading for Brisbane so big problems tomorrow when the King tide comes in. We had 26 inches of rain at my place in the last week and yesterday 10.5 inches in the 24 hours, all that is heading to Brisbane. Looks like we lost 4 friends in the Grantham flood still missing, not good news. The Setalight came back on this morning, it has been rained out for three days no Phone or any other comms Mobile phone works a bit. Haven't heard from Dwyer as he is in the bad area of flood below Toowoomba so hope he is alright. Sun shining at the moment but expecting more rain later today. All the best Bob Foolin Around |

Good to hear your OK Bob, sorry to hear about your friends still missing, fingers crossed they are ok. Hopefully Ian is OK too, he's on a bit of a rise so might be above the worst of it. Glenn The best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago, the second best time is right now. JAQ |

You Guys take Care down there and We Have you All in our prayers. Bob I can email my row boat and a couple of Yankee smoke alarms over to you to help keep things under control. So you can keep the smoke and lightning in the wires. Your sure getting the footage out of that email I sent you. Hi Ian Glad to hear you are well and missed the main flow of destruction, I know what you mean about the ground as the soil here is like jelly as well, we got out the driveway yesterday for the first time since the sad events but couldn't go anywhere due to standing water. They choppered in supplies to local shop yesterday, couldn't get there due to flooded roads but will try again today. We have had power right through so haven't had to resort to genny backup as no solar for days, the windmills are keeping the batteries topped up but not enough for serious use. Hope you are feeling better soon, and stay safe. All the best Bob Foolin Around |

Hi Charlie Need a blow up hovercraft here and no problems with smoke except one lead had a melt down when the water got into it, nice blue flames under water, the storm took out the water pump and a bit of other gear. Thanks for the offer of the boat, etc. All the best Bob Foolin Around |

Update two of my missing friends and family are OK the other couple are still missing presumed dead, they are my daughters in laws and also long time friends of the family, the search for bodies is still ongoing, so unless the miracle happens we are resigning to the worst. They survived the initial flood and if they stayed with the house would have been OK but where told to evacuate and got washed away. The moral of this is don't listen to government idiots you need to use your best judgement to survive these events. Bob Foolin Around |

Hi to all forum members who must deal with this destruction. I have been reluctant to post to this thread because There is nothing I can do or say that will change the situation. Our TV NEWS has be giving coverage to the Queensland Flood and I have been watching this topic for updates. Toomwoomba Video, There are no words to describe the woeful power of this rushing Demon. I am hopeful that all your kin and friends have found a sanctuary. Best regards to all. ------Roe Time has proven that I am blind to the Obvious, some of the above may be True? |

Can't imagine heartaches and pain worst-affected are getting from these floods but one things for sure the Aussies are as usual displaying great fortitude and stoicism thro all these weather problems.I was first struck by their attitude in the bush fires when TV showed an elderly guy whose house had been totally burnt out and all family possessions ,momentoes, photos etc lost. His comment was something along the lines of yes its bad news but we'll just rebuild and get on with it. There also have been lives lost and the dignified and calm way in which most people have taken their loss is one hell of a contrast with the wailing , whingeing and gnashing of teeth we see from certain other parts of the world when tragedy strikes.I'm sure with their great attitude all affected will come thro this as well as possible.
