Even Google is playing cricket today. Australia to the left and New Zealand to the right in the image.

Hi Jman,

Not a chance.... We have a new coach..

For our non `either side of the ditch' cousins.....

The underarm Incident

Very bad sportsmanship made by Australia to force a win against NZ in 1981..
NZ needed a 6 off the last ball by a 10th batsman so Aus rolled it along the ground giving the batsman no chance to hit it for 6 (over the fence) to draw the match..

I, myself was appalled when I saw it on the TV..

I had never heard of that incident - thanks for the link.

I am guessing that underarm bowling is now illegal in the game?
I would think so.

You could still overarm-bowl, but slowly enough so that the ball hits the ground and rolls up to the batsman in exactly the same way, but I would think that Australia would never ever want to repeat THAT mistake again!

Well, lets hope not, anyway!

Jman, Grogs,

I remember it well myself too.. I was working on my car, as most lads in their 20's did when they weren't out chasing sheilas... listening to the cricket, when I heard about Greg telling his brother Trevor to bowl underarm, I thought at the time it was like we did when we bowled to girls in the nets.. it still bounced down but was bowled underarm... I thought it sounded OK,, Then I saw the replay on the TV and realised it was rolled along the ground.. I was appalled, it brought Greg Chappel down many rungs in my eyes.

Trevor had taken 2 wickets in the first 5 balls of that over and this was the last chance for NZ to make a draw a No 9 or 10 `bunny' batsman had to hit a 6 to draw... If it was a draw then well and good the series was 1 each till that game so it would have meant a total draw for the series.. Great it probably deserved it.. but Greg, stole that opportunity away and the Kiwis never let us forget ... Except Grogster.. he was probably too drunk at the time..

Anyway here's to a good game, win or lose (a PCB).

It was just over 34 years back. Grogs may have been too young.

I was a kid of the 70's(born in 1974), so in 1981 I would have been 7, so that would explain it. Never heard anyone mention it before now though.

They were in a tough spot but they are getting a bit of momentum going now. I always say to my missus when she gets all excited about a couple of wickets or a huge score, "It aint over until the last over". One example is the NZ semi against South Africa. A six off the second last ball to win.

CURSES!!!!!!

What kind of boards do you want, Mick?

Choices are:

- VideoMite 1A(panel of 2)
VT100 terminal and MicroMite2 on one board

- SkinnyMite 1A(panel of 5)
64-pin 470-series MicroMite board for Matherp's 470

- Latching Relay Board(panel of 4)
Four seperate DPDT latching relays on one board with transistor drivers for each relay

- Pull-A-Mite(panel of 4)
Simple board with 8x 10k/1k input/output resistors and a tri-state DIL switch to easily pull-up or down and pin(not so useful now that the PULLUP and PULLDOWN commands are available)

- Server Timer 2(panel of 2)
Shuts down a server after a pre-programmed time. Includes on-board relay, and 9v battery

- Static VGA Display 1B(panel of 2)
Generates a static VGA screen for prompting purposes(uses PICAXE for the code, and VT100 for the VGA)

- Static VGA Display 2A(single)
MicroMite based static VGA display and KV switch in one. Will pre-load a static display using the VT100, and when commanded, will switch the VGA from the source to the static display, and isolate the KB

- Reflow Oven Controller 1A(panel of 2)
Uses AD595 thermo-amp, Micromite and VT100 all on one board, for reflow oven control projects for SMD soldering

EDIT: I should point out that these are just the PCB's - you will have to populate them yourself. Full details will be supplied for whatever one you choose.

Hi Grogster,

Sorry to take your money (PCB) .. I will be happy with a skinny mite if you have spare.. No need to be a panel unless you are over loaded..

Regards

Hey, Mick.

Right-o, will send out some Skinny's today with any luck. I have your address on file this time, so don't need to ask you for it yet again.

Thanks Grog,

I didn't buy one earlier as I bought 100 pinners as there was something funny about the specs of the 64 pinners from rs components I didn't like... Cut down no. Of i2c or serial ports or something I can't remember now...

I bought from RS as they offer free postage. I might make a small order with mchip while they have free post on offer..

Regards,

Mick

Hey Mick.

As per the bet, I have sent your PCB's today.
Airmail, so you should have by the end of the week, with any luck.

3x SkinnyMite, 2x Latching Relay Boards, 2x Pull-A-Mite, 1x Reflow Oven Controller and 1x Static VGA display 1A.

If you're gonna send some PCB's, then why not pack the envelope with as many as you can get away with for the postage cost.

I used RSComponents because of the "no freight" policy for on-line orders too Mick. Unfortunately I had trouble with the RSComponents numbers too. I ended up with a 100 pinner when I wanted the 64 for the SkinnyMite - both have the same PIC32MX470F512-I/PT number. Anyway I've just ordered a couple from MicroChip direct for pretty much the same price before the freebie freight month runs out.

BTW for another who watched the "under-arm" incident live at the time (I was born in '48) I have to say it was embarassing. It's always been a bit of a mystery to me how Greg Chappel ended up as one of our team selectors. As for the current situation - well we really didn't need under-arms did we?

Hey Grogs, Can I buy one of your cheapest PCBs and you put it in the biggest envelope you can find!

Thanks

@Grogs,

Thank you mate, you didn't have to go overboard.. If any of my boards appeal just ask as I feel indebted to you for your generosity. I now have all the parts including the oven for the reflow oven project, your spare PCB will come in handy when I `cook' the other one..

@Greg,
Yes the RS specs were confusing as well.. That should have ended Chappel's career but it didnt seem to harm it.. It was as bad a decision, probably even worse, than Bodyline

@WW,
Shame on you, does your lovely wife know the type of man she married?

Regards,

Mick
