My guess is that most learning remote controls do their learning by measuring the timing of the IR signal and then replicating that, ie they do not know what the content means. This is no good for the Micromite and far too messy to implement.


Just thinking on this again from a different angle last night, purely from a transmission point of view.

There seems to be a few families of chips out there dedicated to building universal remotes.

Maybe there are some that can be driven by SPI/I2C.

Might look a little further.
