My Hall monitor chips just arrived from China. Exactly 60 days. Is that normal? I don't think it usually takes more than 5 or 6 weeks, but I have not been logging China orders in a spread sheet until this year. We're all here 'cause we're not all there. |

That is certainly on the longer side of times. The average with standard airmail from China(you pay an extra $2-$5 at the checkout, if the seller gives you that option) is about 2-3 weeks. If you take the free shipping option, they will send it using the lowest of the low priority mail, and I find that it is always best to pay the extra couple of bucks if you are given the choice, as that will speed up delivery somewhat. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

I been lucky, the last few orders have all been under a couple of weeks, one arrived only 4 days after I ordered it- blisteringly fast (I'll have jinxed myself now and it will go back to 3-4 weeks again) I havent had one take more than a month, month and a half tops off aliexpress (ebays a different matter, last 2 chinese orders off ebay never arrived at all, lucky for paypal) |

I usually receive mainland China orders in 30-35 days and Hong-Kong ones in 12-20 days. As a comparison, mainland Australia orders take 7-8 days for standard post. UK is less than 2 weeks and USA anything from 1 to 4 weeks. Jim VK7JH MMedit |

Given that everything is barcoded and scanned several times over, it would be easy enough to have a "origin" barcode as well as a "destination" address barcode...the postal cost could then be computed easily enough. But that would take a convention to be set up by our brilliant politicians wouldn't it !!! Wouldn't want to disturb the $multiMILLION salary of the public servant CEOs I guess. [That's not a joke.] I wonder why postal vans do not have scanners installed - an article could then be scanned and sorted on-the-go as the van transits. Incidentally China is at least providing low-cost goods. I am wondering what happens when say India/Pakistan/Bangladesh also exports low budget stuff, given the lack of any real copyright/intellectual-property enforcement. Can you see the worthy Tax Office officials going door-to-door in Bangalore checking compliance ? I don't think so. |

of course, we could just abolish GST, and bump up everyone's income taxes correspondingly. but then that would save businesses billions of dollars of compliance expenses every year in not having to collect GST, as well as provide an unfair advantage to poor people who's incomes are mostly spent on GST-attracting goods and services. cheers, rob :-) |

They do. Or at least my postie has one which she scans parcels that get into the letterbox. It's the $2 parcels that need a signature on receipt that are a pain and require the trip to the local PO. Jim VK7JH MMedit |

Seems a lot of variations, my postie (on a bike) has a scanner, and the epad thing that does the scan also does signatures, just scribble with the plastic pen thing and take your parcel. Bigger parcels come later in the day in the van, he has the same deal, just scribble on the grey pad scanner Only time I have to go to the post office is when I am out and it needs a sig, I get the card in the letterbox to go collect it |

My postie doesn't get out of her car and my electric gates would stop her getting to the house anyway. No parcel van out here in the sticks (although a lot of the courier companies do deliver). Jim VK7JH MMedit |

If he needs a sig, the bikie postie (lol what an image) just beeps a couple of times, if I am too slow to go out or not home, he leaves the card Works in surburbia... wont work at my new place when I get it done tho |
