Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Zonker.

I don't have any of those RTC/FRAM chips, but I did download the manual for it.
I decided against using it, as although only 14-pin SOIC, it was too big for the space I had available, whereas the plain FRAM in 8-pin SOIC fitted perfectly.

From what I remember reading, the 14-pin device is addressable as two seperate slave devices on the I2C bus, so you should be able to talk to the FRAM using the examples from the other thread, but perhaps changing the FRAM slave address, depending on what it actually is.

Perhaps I should get a couple of those chips to play with.

EDIT: Zonker - where did you get yours from? Original part # is obsolete, as mentioned by Jim at the end of page 1 of this thread, but a search for FM31256-G has led to good results, but they are NOT cheap - twenty bucks a chip in our money. So I just want to check if you know or knew of a better source.Edited by Grogster 2014-11-12

Nice code, jman. Not sure how I missed that. Did you post that on the other thread?

Good afternoon Jim...

I do have a working copy of Autotrax DEX but I used Eagle v5 to spin this one up...
I have posted the XLS BOM file from Digikey for the parts cost which should be on the "high side" of things, but is basically $30... It took about 4 hours for me to hand build one using a stereo microscope from work... (a bit tedious) but I managed to "get-er-done"... I will be finishing up the second one tonight...

I am glad I only ordered 20 of these, as there STILL seems to be a small registration error on the blasted DFN-12 FTDI chip..! I will get it fixed in the Eagle library and repost the gerbers when I get a chance... But first, I need to get the code installed to test the RTC and Fram IC to see if there is any problems with the layout going on there... Thanks to J-man, I think I can now make this happen without to much fuss..! (thank god for software guys)...

Will keep everyone posted on things...

EDIT: Ok.. Thanks to the J-man code for the FM3126, I got to try it on the FM31256-G and it seems to be working... Next I want to tryout the Fram code also posted here, (Thanks Gents!) and get a basic interrupt event type logger going...

A BIG Thank You goes to the fine codemakers that helped get the hardware tested..!!

@Paceman: I will get you one built up soon as well as one for Geoff and WW... I would love to have a few "beta testers" for this module..! The cost of parts is basically about $30 for the unit... PM me with your Ship-to address and I will let you know when it gets built... I will send out a pay-pal invoice when it's ready to go... Edited by Zonker 2014-11-17
