@Grogster
Waiting patiently for the MicroMite+ Explore64 boards.
Will you be selling assembled units with the latest firmware?

@ MMAndy - I don't see you in my list of members I have sent boards to - did I send you some boards or did you PM me for some and I missed it?

I have not been able to keep all PM', as the inbox has been filling up so quick, that I always have to delete the oldest messages to allow for new ones.

I keep a list of all members names and their nom-de-plumes here that I have sent boards to thus far, so I know who is who and where things have been sent to after I delete PM's, but you don't seem to be on the list.

I will be offering fully assembled modules on my website when it gets "On-air" by the end of the month, with any luck. I will also be offering just blank boards, and full kits too.

WhiteWizzard will also be doing the same from his micromite.org website.

As you are a "Newbie" member, I feel it is really important to point out that this module and the MM+ firmware from Geoff is still effectively in beta testing, the purpose of which is mainly to find and report any bugs to Geoff before the "Official" printed release in Silicon Chip magazine.

Apologies if you already know all that, but better safe then sorry.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I never intended, being a newbee, to be on your mailing list. Thanks anyway.

What I am after is the MM+ Explore64 for my new project. Its a simple bridge board that connects the 7" TFT display to your MM+ Explore64 stamp. Now I can have a miniature portable computer "off the grid" and "off the network" with a self contained Basic development system with editor and SD memory storage. No IDE or PC required. Sorry NSA. Flick me a PM if you want the Explore64 blank PCB I have been sending to the other beta testers.

My luck ran out... The SD card holders and the Mini-USB connectors I ordered were the wrong ones. The USB connector is workable with the hot air station, but a real pain with the solder contacts points fully under the jack. The SD card holder I ordered is completely backwards, with the solder points at the front of the card instead of the rear. To top it off, I think my solder paste has gone bad. It is should be good from 6 to 12 months depending on how it's stored and I've had it less than 2. I've ordered some new connectors and solder paste and hopefully I will get one of these things soldered together next weekend.

Thanks for the offer! If I don't have better luck with this second round of parts, I just might take you up on it. Hopefully I have it covered this time. I ordered USB sockets from two different manufactures so hopefully one of them is more to my liking. Plus, the SD card holder was my fault for not checking the specs close enough. Of course, that doesn't mean I haven't made some other dumb error on the new order.

@ Grogster
Got my boards today and started assembly. Thought I had enough experience to assemble without reading the notes, so when it came to the LED I soldered it in with the anode to the + sign that is part of the Micromite+ logo. Don't know if you want to change that there are probably more people out there as silly as me.

A proposed solution: From now on lets simply call it the MicroMite -

No we need to go Green, the board should be LED free :)

@Grogster

On your MicroMite+ Explore64 stamp module, you are using pin 12 as the SD card enable (chip select) for your built-in, on-board SD card component. If a user is using a TFT display, also with a SD card holder, do your recommend using the "same" SD card enable for the SD card on TFT display? (chip select pin 12)

What I can see, using the same chip select for both SD card holders allows usage in "either or" but not both SD card slots.

Are there any downsides using the same chip selects?

Hey there.

You can use the same pins as on the E64 module(pins 12 and 14) for CD and WP on another external SD card socket if you like, but as you say - just make sure you DON'T use the on-board uSD card socket at the same time. I don't think this would cause any damage that I can see by looking at that configuration, but you would confuse the hell out of the E64 and probably both SD cards too.

EDIT: On 2nd thought, you would need to reassign the CD and WP pins. Using an external socket in parallel with the on-board one, would NOT work, simply cos the ob-board uSD card socket's CD switch will be closed when there is no card in there, and the E64 would constantly say "Card not present".

So, yes, better to reassign the CD and WP pins to other pins - OR not install the uSD card socket on the E64.Edited by Grogster 2015-07-27

Do you have the latest 1b schematic because CD and WP are missing on ours?

I am not sure if you are hoping to end up with two SD card sockets available.

The command for setting up the SD card is done from the command line only and not within a program. I expect that you will have to disable the first socket (on the command line) before initializing the second one.

As Jim says, you cannot have more then ONE SD card, and you cannot assign two sets of CD and WP, it is a case of one or the other, but not both.

Jim is also correct. If you need to reassign the CD and WP pins, you have to disable the SD card first with OPTION SDCARD DISABLE, then cycle power, then issue the new configuration such as OPTION SDCARD 1,2 and then cycle power again to have the new setup work.

On the schematic, V3 July 2015 is in the construction ZIP included earlier in this thread. It does not show the WP pin, but it does show the CD pin. Both the CD and WP pins are just whatever you nominate them to be, and are connected to ground by the socket when active - so CD is grounded by the card socket switch when there is no card in the socket, and open when there is a card in there, and WP is the same in that it is a closed contact when the tab is in the LOCK postion on the edge of the card, and open when the tab is not in the LOCK position.

Micro-SD cards don't have a lock switch, so if specified on the E64 module, will be essentially ignored.
