LOL!

You have a point!

Time for a break away from it for now then.
Getting sick of it, so time for a change of scene.

I must admit, that is a neatly wired project there Grogs!

Hopefully you will get some sound out of it soon - you must then do a video of it operating!

Keep up the great work

Yes, I will do a video once it is working. I am still waiting for my buck converters to arrive for the 12v supply to the MM electronics, but if I get desperate, I can use an external regulator fed from the 32v input. It would just be preferable to have the buck converter mounted in the case with everything else, to keep it all tidy.

Perhaps cable-tying all the wires up is premature - it is not working yet!

. . . and hopefully they won't generate any cross-talk being that they are all bunched together so tidily

UPDATE

Just a quick wee update. The Buck converters and XH-3P plug sets to suit the amp inputs arrived the other day, so I was able to fit the regulator, and prepare the amp inputs:

The inputs have the pins connected, but I have not fitted them to the shells yet.

The buck converter has not yet been adjusted for 12v output, so it's output plugs are also just dangling at the moment.

This weekend, I hope to get enough time to be able to do some preliminary tests. I have the 32v eleven-amp PSU all cased up, so that is ready and waiting. I tend to stretch things out a little more then maybe most others would, as I like things to be correct(or as correct as they can be, anyway) BEFORE initial power-up, to at least minimize initial power-up problems.

UPDATE

Initial power up complete - no smoke.
Buck reg set. At power-up, it was giving 16v output, which is right on the threshold of the on-board regulators, but the relays probably would have handled it OK for a time. Naturally, adjusted for 12v output now.

All system voltages correct, so the next step is to power up the amps with speakers disconnected, and test voltages on the amp supply rail, and making sure there is no significant voltage on any of the speaker outputs.

All that done, I will then connect some speakers to the amps, and begin some actual sound testing.

UPDATE

32v on all amps, 0.05v on each amp output at rest. This all seems perfectly normal and well within what I would expect, so time for some speakers. Edited by Grogster 2015-11-08

Hi Grogster,

I haven't been on the forum for some time now, but reading this whole post is just amazing.
You've certainly set yourself quite a challenge.
Best of luck to you.

Thanks.

I have the I2C talking between the main board and the relays, and also the remote control code is essentially up and running. I need to now do some graphics for the LCD, and then I can post more photos and/or a video. I am not going to bother with the touch side of things now, as I was forgetting that you need a MM+ chip for all the fancy GUI controls. There is still some touch ability in the MM2, but I have decided just to stick to controlling everything with the remote control instead.

I hope to get some sound through the thing soon.

Grogs, when you get your IR routines going, I can give you a hand with the graphics and touch screen if that suits.

@ Jim - well, we're not doing so well there as with the rugby! Oh well....

@ Graeme - Graphics will be basic for my needs at the moment, but I will be releasing all the code, Gerbers etc at the end of this thread as a constructor pack, so that if anyone wants to build the controller and/or relay board, then then can. I will keep you in mind when the time comes, and will PM you directly if you want to take on the touch-side of things.

UPDATE

Software is coming along slowly, but nothing has YET complained at me other then some coding bugs, and we all seem to be capable of those!

See this video for a look at the startup sequence. The colours on the LCD are much more vibrant then this camera shows them. My camera does not like filming LCD's...

However, you can see how it works.

In the next few daze to a week, I will add menus for different things, such as bass, treble, middle, subs etc. Once I have a bit more of the code in there, I should be able to actually play around with the settings, but you need to have the initial code working to make that nice and easy.

...to be continued...

DAMN Grogster, that is awesome! Can't wait to see this one going. Display looks good too. How is the comms with the audio chip going? Is it somewhat intuitive or driving you crazy?

Grogs,

Just took a quick look at your video - nice big text you're using on the relatively small screen.
So which text font is that? Is it an 'imported' one as I don't recognise it as a 'built-in' one?

How long do you reckon it is now before you produce some sound from this beast?

Keep the updates coming. . .

@ viscomjim - No problems with I2C YET. jman has been very helpful and wrote me some test routines to work with, so I am using them at the moment, changing them as I go, so that they also update the LCD display. I am about to actually hook up some signal and speakers and run a sound-check test in the next day or so.

@ WW - Yes, loadable fonts, saved in the library. Text font is "BigFont.BAS", 16x16 full. I use 2x scaling. I wanted a font that could be read from across the room OK, and this one is perfect. I also have "SevenSegNumFont.BAS", 32x50 numbers only, for the numeric readouts. I have saved "various_symbols.BAS", 16x16 as font #3, but I have not used any of those yet, and if I don't I will probably remove it from the library to free up space if I start to run out of flash.

Lots of us out here waiting for this day. You should do a live video stream for that moment to add to the 'build up'

Might have to side with Chris on that!

I've made a new video with a different camera. This camera is much better at recording the colours on the screen, but it is still a little rough.

Still, better then my other camera.

This shows what I have working thus far. (EDIT: by working, I mean the GUI. Have not debugged the actual audio processor yet, but I live in hope that it will just work!) I am controlling all the screens with the remote control.

This video has no sound, so don't worry that you can't hear anything.Edited by Grogster 2015-11-11

Well, to be fair and honest, I removed the sound from the video, cos at the point I pressed one of the wrong buttons in the SOURCE menu, and it showed up with NOT VALID, I swore quite loudly.

It was my mistake, and the system was doing EXACTLY what it was supposed to be doing(saying that key was not valid), but unfortunately, the colourful colloquialisms still escaped.

I thought I had better not post that language in the video, but could not be bothered to edit it, so just deleted the sound track.

The GUI work continues....

And yes - I will post a video with sound once I get it working - and I will not swear!
