Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.
Supported this and pledged the Assembly Kit based on the June 1 update which purportedly showed a video of the assembly process and mentioned it could be assembled in 20 minutes with minimal soldering... the video also showed the smd parts preinstalled...
Fast forward to reality... parcel arrived this week. First thing I saw was a bag of approx 100 smd parts and a partially-assembled pcb stack. Methinks something was lost in translation, I thought the smd parts would be installed as per the video, and through-hole/mechanical installation was required - not the other way around! Sorry I don't know a person alive who could install all the smd parts in 20 minutes, and soldering is far from minimal.
To say I am disappointed is an understatement. Basically this kit is useless to me.
Any other experiences? By comparison the Explore 100 kit from Rictech was a delight to build and does everything as advertised...

would you mind posting a photo or two of what you received?
with a bit of luck there may be a forum member close to where you live, who could help with the SMD assembly. you do raise a very valid point, perhaps for the next revision of the boards kiiid could move to placing all the SMD parts on a small daughterboard that can be shipped fully assembled.
cheers, rob :-)

pm20, did you expect fully assembled boards? If so, that only means the guys from the distribution warehouse have made a mistake and sent you a wrong parcel. Shouldn't be jumping to conclusions so fast as you have. Please email CrowdSupply and they will fix it for you. The boards are assembled, but there is a kit as well because there were people who wanted the parts only so they assemble themselves.Edited by kiiid 2017-01-01http://rittle.org

@kiiid,
With pm20 being the 'customer', or possibly 'an investor' to your campaign, is it not worth you personally stepping in for him to sort it out? He is already disappointed with things, so to ask him to email is probably the last thing he wants to hear!
Mistakes do happen with distribution, and a sign of 'great customer service' is how you resolve these mistakes. It is definitely worth you emailing CrowdSupply to ask what went wrong, and to get them to reassure you with the steps they are taking to make sure this mistake isn't repeated. The best products can be 'destroyed' if a 'third party' let's you down . . . .
I hope you are able to help pm20 so that he can then post about how great the Ello is . . . .
