I ordered the FT234XD chips from DigiKey, but they are here in the US so I am not sure how long it will take to get them to you... I do have one more USB connector that is unused so I can drop it into your package if you want...

EDIT: My E-mail address is: johna_zonker@yahoo.com

Thanks Zonker,

I just looked at DigiKey's AUS site and the chips were a good price $2.36 each but I went into chat to get an idea of freight and they said the freight for under $200 is $34US.... (about $40 AUS)

Crikey!! I would want a slab of beer included for that .... half a dozen of the FT234XD chips would be lost under the postage stamp on a letter...

I will keep searching for a local supplier

Regards,

Mick

Hi Mick,

Mouser want a minimum order of £50 (exc 20% vat) for a free fully trackable shipping service to the UK. This is about $90AUD.

If I order on a Monday or Tuesday I get the parts by the end of the week. Have been very impressed with their delivery timescales and hence I use the a LOT. (Last week ordered FTDI chips + LDOs in volume to get good cost per unit. Ordered Tuesday evening, arrived Friday morning (and that sat at Heathrow for over 24hrs!)

Their cost for FT234XD = £1.35+20% so not sure if that compares well with the $2.75 you mentioned above.
Also don't know what tax rates you have out there.

I tried several local suppliers here in UK but they don't stock that part. If they did I would have sent some to you for £8.90 tracked.

So Mouser looks best option at moment . . .

Thanks Gand.... Errr WhiteWizard,

Thats better,

I have ordered 2 complete builds (1 for Don) plus 4 blanks from Zonker,

I am sure I will find some cheap enough.. But really at this stage I may not need them as the blanks can be application only PCBs as I can debug using the serial ones and when happy just populate what I need on the blanks to run the show.

I also can modify the boards to suit other chips if I **really** need to anyway.

Regards,

Mick

Just in case anyone missed it...

Looks like "full builds" will cost $35 and PCB flats will be $4...
Shipping basically cost $10 for a single full build (3oz)..
Just sent me your E-mail address and mailing address and I can invoice through PayPal...

@TZ.. Did I read in the thread that you were looking for 10 full builds and a few bare PCB's..? Let me know if you still want them...

Well, I haven't sent many out yet, but, I just sent out an order to Bigmik who ordered 2 full builds and 4 flats and it was $10 to AUS... Not sure if that's going to always be the story, but so far it seems to be...

Good morning All..

As far as I can tell, all of the orders for boards were sent out last week sometime, and should be in route to everybody. I am waiting on address info from Jean, who wanted some flats, but I figure the first ones I sent out should be there by now... Has anyone received theirs yet..?

Zonk,

The postie arrived just as we were leaving for our holidays... They look great..

I hope to try one tomorrow..

I had a look at that tiny chip and, whilst I WILL have a go at soldering it ... If I can get some... But i will be honest I think it will be beyond my ability to solder correctly..

Regards

Mick

Ok..!!

Thanks Mick for the feedback. Both you and Geoff have now received your packages... That makes it about 2 weeks for delivery "down under"... WhiteWizzard should be next but he is on the other side of the planet.. So, hopefully, most of the others I have sent out should be hitting home during the next week or so... I was starting to get concerned about the whole ting..!!

So, I will get the rest of the stock updated to Beta-18 core and start sending the rest of the orders out early next week..!! (sweet)... it's been a busy week at work with +10 hour days rolling out the first production runs of the new 450kw switch-mode machines used for hybrid battery pack life cycle testing here at Bitrode Corp... Time for a few BEERS this evening, then play a little catch-up work for the fine people here at the Shed..!!

Thanks Mick for the update..!

Hi Zonk,

I plugged up your boards and they fired up first go.. I am not in a position to test the actual workings on holidays, No LEDs/Resistors but the modules are working fine.

One minor suggestion.. Your test prog says PRESS ANY KEY it should be PRESS ENTER as you have used INPUT as opposed to INKEY$. No drama as anyone going to use the uMite will definitely work that one out.

Mick

Good evening Gent's..!

Just a quick update... I got the rest of the stock updated to Beta-18 and packed up the current orders... I am still waiting for an address from one member, but will be sending things out first thing after work on Monday... Currently, that makes 6 more full builds and 20 flats left up for grabs...

@Big Mick... Thanks for the feedback... Test program updated...

Thanks everyone..!!

Gday Lads,

After biting the bullet and buying AUTOTRAX DEX I decided to have a go at a small uMite board..

OK why reinvent the wheel? Actually I am not re-inventing it, It is no way as good as White Wizards or Zonkers offerings and it isnt designed to be..

It is designed to be used (for my purposes at least) a final board after development is done and dusted (using one of WW or Z's boards).

I envision that the board is to supplied with 5Vdc, only, via a standard USB `wall wart' adapter and it generates the 3v3 onboard.. it has connectors for the TTL console but generally I wont be using the console hence no need for USB onboard.. It has two 14 pin headers alongside the chip so any pin can be picked up.. and a strip of I2C and 3v3 headers for upto 4 I2C devices..

It is designed to fit the 50mm square cheap chinese proto boards (actual size about 49.5 x 43mm) so it will be cheap.

I intend to get the minimum proto run for myself of 10 but if there is any interest I will order a few more.

Anyway submitted the design (for what its worth) for comments.

Note VR1 and VR2 are one or the other, I have catered for SMD or TO-220 device for the 3v3 regulator.

I have not fully checked the circuit as of yet as I am on holidays and its hard juggling beers and hamburgers and laptops.
