Hi all.

I just received a VGA to HDIM adapter from Amazon that I found from, I think somewhere on Geoff's Projects but I can not find the link anymore.  The link was for an Amazon.UK product so I had to find the same one on the US store.  IT looks good but offsets the screen content off-screen in every mode down and to the right leaving one column off the right side and down half a row off as well. I get the same thing with a laptop and a PC so I am thinking it is not the CMM2. It is going back.  I saw one link here for another device but can not find it on Amazon.com.   I am going to go find that other listing on here and try again to find it in the US.  My best setup would to have a good addaper like this that does it right.  Anyone else find one that works well for them?

Check my old thread on this topic. I compare and contrast three different adapters and make a recommendation.

Yes, You are the fellow I was talking about for that other device. I did a search for it and found it again.(you should link to it in your post if you mention it) I can't find that GANA one on the US Amazon site.  I can't find it on FleaBay either.  I think they are all just rebranding of one product but you just can't know.  I got the one that was suggested on the CMM2 site(or what had the same lableing as that one!!) and it was not good,so it seems like a crap shoot. I am going to order a few options form Amazon Prime so I can return them easly.  It is just a hasale finding good products online. If I find a good one I will post it here.

I was wanting to use a convenient TV in a good place to work with the CMM2, hence the adapter quandary. Sadly Most newer TV don't have VGA anymore.

The trouble with VGA to HDMI is that the signal is analog to digital. But it requires a video decoder and video scaler between the two signals. Cheap devices on ebay, amazon and other sites will have varying degrees of compatibility.

There is a mid-range device, in the £40 - £90 price range, which may or may not be worth it. The "Extron VGA-HDMI 300" sells for a lowish price on ebay second hand. I got one for £45. It has plenty of settings for adjusting size and position of the input and output. The video output quality though isn't the best (quite noisey honestly) but it's quite robust. The problem is, it's pretty much twice the size of the CMM2 lol.

There's also the "professional" range. The OSSC (Open Source Scan Converter) is one such device. It has VGA in and outputs HDMI (on version 1.6 and up). It costs around £130 - £150 depending on where you get it. I recommened VideoGamePerfection.com. The output from the OSSC should be crystal clean, depending on the resolution and whether you enable scaling (scaling doesn't work on all resolutions.) (The one selling on amazon "Kaico Edition" Is cheaply made and doesnt last... from what i've been told anyway.)

I'm going to record some direct video capture of the CMM2 (once I do the crystal mod) using the extron device, the ossc and a cheap £10 vga to hdmi adapter from amazon.

In my honest opinion though, overall... For the cost, it might be worth just grabbing a cheap 19inch 4:3 LCD monitor from ebay. £20 - £30 total, for native VGA input (check to make sure it has it first, of course though). Set up the CMM2 with a dedicated monitor, keyboard and speakers, and you'll be good to go.

I can get one of those in The US.  Thanks.  Ordering now!

EDIT:  I got it and it dispalys everything 1/2 a charactor up and to the left in all modes.  That would drive me nuts as the frist line in every screen is unreadable.  Sending it back!! Could it be that my system is the issue on a VGA screen it is PERFECT.  I was waiting for an FleaBay unit and it dose the same thing but down and to the right.  It cut off only the last column but I am stuck with it so there you go.

The odd thing is that when I change the aspect ratio of screens to 1to1 I can see that is still cut off in both cases like the window that is being displayed of the screen is offset from the display area being output. Just weird.  Thanks anyway.
