Hi everyone,

Just finished my MaxiMite! I’m now playing with Micromite, I have tried connecting an ebay cp2102 to a programmed mx170 28 pin, and get some funny results

First windows returned a code 10 error, until I added a power switch on the 3.3v line, now I get some serial output, with 40% of it bad transmission. Should I ditch the cp2102 in favour of a FTDI? I would like to power the pic from the USB port.

Any ideas welcome
Andy

These work well

I think either FTDI or CP**** will work (though not exactly interchangeable)

Most USB serial adapters only have limited 3.3V available. I would suggest taking the 5V and using your own 3.3V regulator.

There were (and probably still is) a lot of fake FTDI chips in circulation.

This one works for me ......... 3.45V and all ........
The only advantage I ever saw (for FTDI )
was one may program to invert ......
Thus negate the need for the PicAxe cable .... :)

I find the Freetronics units very reliable. have been using them for a few years now.

Maybe not the cheapest but always work for me.
Also has a 3.3 / 5 volt switch to output either voltage
from it's Vcc out pin to use if you need it.

go on ebay and snag yourself a baggie of CH340G like these

work really well (for me) and you can switch 5V or 3.3V levels with a jumper. I have binned off FTDI and Prolific devices now due to driver glitches (Prolific by far the worst and last one was changed out this very evening!).
