Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Vito,

Very nice, brings back so many memories or days long gone.. It is very much like the SIMMSTICK offerings that DONTRONICS sold many moons ago.. but Z80 based instead on Pic and Atmel based that the simmsticks were based on.

The Z80 is much more difficult to play with than the latest PIC and ATMEL as there is so much extra support `glue logic' required to get them going.. but I love the small footprint and plug in modules.. it is, unfortunately, about 30 years too late.

You could add the newer CPU (Hitachi HD64180 ??) that was in a 68pin chip and had some extra peripheral on board by simply redesigning the CPU board.

Good stuff

Kind Regards,

Mick

Hi
I really like the RC2014. I saw an article on HackaDay that featured a Z80 based micro with just 4 IC's. Take a look at it here Z80-MBC2 This was to good to pass up so i built one and can confirm it works as described. It runs CP/M and has Basic in rom.
Geoffs Ascii terminal makes a great video and keyboard interface should you want to run it standalone. Acsii Terminal

My built one pictured below

Can you gues the game from the picture below ?

I have a few spare PCB's for this project if anybody wants to build one.
PCB's are free just cover the postage.

Regards
Jman

It is amazing how far we have come.

We used to build a computer around a CPU and discrete TTL
Then the next step up was use a CPLD for compacter logic.
The boost came when we added asics (ZX81/Spectrum/C64)

And then cam the impasse, all focus was on faster micro's, Intels glory days
And microcontrollers, the all-in-one solution.

Until some years ago, when we felt Nostalgia comming up.
And now we are using an ATMEL ATMEGA32 to emulate the logic and EEPROM of the old Z80 SBC. Whereas the MEGA32 has many times the processing power the Z80 has, but it is emulating TTL logic.....

Anyway, a good attempt to revive ZORK1 ....
Did anyone ever translate the colossal cave adventure from fortran to basic ?

I have over 20 8" double sided, double density floppies with a whole range of CP/M software (MS assemblers, linkers, compilers, MS Basic, ZCPR3 - a CP/M derivitive including source code as well as a range of other software - spreadsheet, database, word processor etc.)

My problem is that I do not have a working Z80/CP/m system and more particularly, I don't have access to a 8" DSDD drive to extract the info from the floppies.

Anyone have any ideas on how I might get this data off the floppies onto some modern format eg. SD card, memory stick etc. I have all the bits for a Z80 computer and could easily knock one up but without software there is little point.

I have started a project to emulate the Z80 on the STM32H7 Nucleo but it is a fairly major job and could be a while before I get anything actually working . In any case, I still need the software off the floppies to make it worthwhile.

panky.

... almost all of the Maximites, the MicromMites, the MM Extremes, the ArmMites, the PicoMite and loving it!

Speaking of retro, I have a swag of cassette tapes with Basic programs and software I wrote many years ago and I was thinking of setting up a Mite to read and save these files to an SD or something similar.
