Hi All, This is my first forum post here and I'm really getting started with this whole programming thing.. I've attempted to download MMEdit from the c-com.com.au website linked to everywhere but it appears to be compromised by viruses as my virus scanner goes off when I attempt to connect to it. Is there another place where MMEdit can be downloaded from? Or another similar tool? Is the owner of the website aware that it is tripping off virus scanners? Cheers for any assistance, James |

Probably a false flag by the anti-virus tool(s). John |

Let me guess, you use Norton's products? Over a year ago, Norton's declared my site unsafe. When I asked why, they said they would get back to me within 2 weeks. Still haven't heard anything. I have left my site untouched so that I don't upset them any further in spite of wanting to update the site. It's up to you who you trust, but the large vendors of security products like to class anything they don't know about as "dangerous". The more bad sites they protest there customers from, the safer their customer feel and can justify buying the product. If they can't work out that a bog standard, dull and boring website without any active code is safe, I wouldn't trust their products to protect my computers. Of course, If I was to purchase Norton's products, they would look favorably at my website. Blackmail. I can't guarantee that my website hasn't been hacked but you would have the same problem/risk if I was to upload MMEdit anywhere else. Fortunately, you can use the micromite family without resorting to MMEdit so it is not essential. Jim VK7JH MMedit |

Hi Jim just a FYI, I normally have no issues with your site, however something has changed since I last went to your site. FYI: Windows 10-pro 64 bit and Avast. I mostly run Opera browser and have Avast internet security, the message I now get from Avast is: https://www.c-com.au/MMedit.htm Infected with URL-Phishing However Microsoft Edger and Internet Explorer don't bring up Avast, but both give the following message: Cannot securely connect to this page. This might be because the site uses outdated or unsafe TLS security settings. If this keeps happening, try contacting the website’s owner. This is interesting because this is the only site that triggers these messages. I myself have a bog standard website that I wrote over 10 years ago and it triggers nothing. Rather strange this one. Thanks for the information. https://www.virustotal.com, https://checkphish.ai/ and https://sitecheck.sucuri.net all list my site as clean. https://urlquery.net reports "no alerts detected" but does mention a SSL error "ssl_error_no_cypher_overlap" https://urlquery.net also mentions another website on the same hosting service that has bitcoin data-mining crap on it but that should effect me. The SSL certificate is handled by my hosting service. My W10 PCs don't give any errors with Firefox or Edge. There might have been a certificate renewal recently that is taking a while to filter through the system. The avast forum has plenty of website owners complaining about false positives but I haven't seen any response from avast that explains exactly what is was that caused the false positive. They seem to refer you to the sites I used above. I really don't think I could be bothered trying to get my name cleared. Jim VK7JH MMedit |

Jim, I don’t get any complaints from Avast, either on my notebook with Win7/64 or my old Win XP notebook. My iPad Mini doesn’t complain either. Greg |

Just a quick FYI on something interesting: If I use a VPN, the link works perfectly with no error messages from any browser about site security and no pop-up from Avast in opera. I still think the last few Win 10 security updates have caused this, nothing is flagging a Virus in MMbasic zip or exe, it's just flagging a problem (real or imagined) with the MMedit.htm page. Just for everyone's information, I have also had questions from visitors to my site, saying that my constructor's packs have been detected as having a virus. This is a false-positive. There seems to be a bit of that happening these days. False-positives are a pain, and I suspect Jim is quite correct in that the big AV companies simply don't care about the little websites, so probably just mark them as potentially dangerous if their algorithms can't decide that they are safe. I cannot recall what AV package the chap I was emailing with had. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

@KeepIS, I wonder if you use a different DNS when on the VPN. Can you do a nslookup and tracert direct and via VPN to make sure that your DNS has not been hijacked. I also think IPv6 for my website points to an old hosting site. C:\Windows\System32>nslookup www.c-com.com.au Server: router Address: 192.168.88.1 Non-authoritative answer: Name: c-com.com.au Addresses: 2407:e700:3:1::be 103.18.109.157 Aliases: www.c-com.com.au C:\Windows\System32>tracert www.c-com.com.au Tracing route to c-com.com.au [103.18.109.157] over a maximum of 30 hops: 1 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms router [x.x.x.x] 2 <1 ms <1 ms <1 ms [x.x.x.x] 3 27 ms 38 ms 36 ms [x.x.x.x] 4 39 ms 37 ms 38 ms [x.x.x.x] 5 56 ms 47 ms 57 ms 103.18.111.190 6 51 ms 48 ms 57 ms s1.cpcloud.com.au [103.18.109.157] Trace complete. Before I reply, just in case some people don't read the complete thread and assume that I'm the one having a problem - I'm NOT. As I can easily get to Jims web site. So my reply's to this thread are just for interest sake as it appears from the original Post by detonat3 that he does have a valid problem. Again, a virus is NOT being reported - I am familiar with false positives from flaky Anti Virus applications including Avast. So with Avast WEB shield disabled everything works fine - it obviously does not like something about the html page. Now to answer Jims question: nslookup is identical with or without the VPN - which BTW I hardly ever use. tracert is also identical with and without VPN including the same 3 request time outs from 4 to 6. The final destination is: 12 23 ms 22 ms 22 ms . [103.18.109.157] In each case the destination is reached in 12 hops. Strange that VPN path is not different, like I said I hardly every use it. I have two VPN's available, it's strange that one VPN causes Avast web shield to shut up but the second VPN is still interrupted by the Web shield. I usually have some components of Avast turned off and only use what I need, however a recent Auto upgrade in Avast has obviously turned a few annoying shields back on. Mike. I received a reply form Avast today I don't know if they actually looked at my site or just change their database. I don't trust them to do the job properly and there's no chance of them telling me why they hate me. Jim VK7JH MMedit |
