Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

G'Day All.

I have used VAR SAVE and VAR RESTORE in the past with no problems however things went bad when I started a new lot of 28 pin chips from Arrow.
I had developed the program using a dog eared chip from Grogster and made the move into a new chip at the same time as inserting the SAVE / RESTORE stuff and that was that.
It all came good when I did a VAR CLEAR so I assume the thing was chockers.
I'm sure (as much as I can be) that my software didn't do it and it's all O.K. now so did the chips leave the factory almost full?
I think we should go back to steam.

Dog eared chip?
Does not compute.
Please define 'Dog eared chip'.....

G'Day.

Do I have to explain every thing to you?
Dog eared comes from the look of a dog that has lost a few fights. One ear droops a bit, that sort of thing.
This particular chip has pin 4 sticking out because I got a bit ham-listed and it is now stuck HI or LO, can't remember, so I am stuck with it's operating system.
It was a very nice chip when you sold it to me.
But this problem had me going for the best part of 2 days.

Oh, OK, thanks.
Not sure that the attitude is really required though.....

Please use smilies so we all know your actual mood.

Your post above reads as over-the-top offensive towards me, cos you are not using any smilies. IE: It reads as though you are insinuating I am seriously an idiot - which I would seriously dispute. I simply had not heard that term before.

Sorry!

Do you remember I had to explain LULU to you?
If there is a problem it is my use of old Australian expressions. I will try to avoid them in future.
And I will remember to use smilies when I am trying to be funny.

I still think we should go back to steam

Oh yeah, I DO remember you had to explain that to me.

It's cool.

It just read like you were angry at me about this, and I don't want that.
Would it be of any help if you were to send me the 'dog-eared' PCB and I could replace the chip with a new one and put the latest MMBASIC firmware on it?

Free. You just need to pay postage. I'd hate think you were struggling.
That's what the forums are here for - to help.

People from all over the world had a lot of fun with LULU and that is also what a forum is about.
Not to worry about the dog (eared chip). I damaged it and these things happen and they only cost $5. I bought 5 from arrow and, if Mike keeps going, I will need about 80 more.

I know lots of Aussie colloquialisms, but certainly not all of them.
Always willing to learn more, though.

EDIT: I'm trying to track down this ad, but it does not seem to exist on YouTube. If I ever find it, I will post a link. It was hilarious at the time. I might even have an old copy on VHS videotape - I will look up my archive database.Edited by Grogster 2019-01-06

What the hell was that all about? I think someone's a sandwich short of a picnic. Peter can you "please explain" in the morning before the sun is over the yardarm?

Grogster, Don't be sucked in. He's only extracting the urine. BTW it's "Rat up a drainpipe".

Oh my. If an Australian has trouble understanding someone from New Zealand, what chance does a poor Yank have?

G'Day Bill.

Explain what?
Which bit do you not understand. The bit about VAL or the bit about getting HER to bed?
(SHE is 80 and very wobbly)

Hi Peter,

I did not understand the first post. Whether it was meant to be funny, a comment or a question. Either way I missed the point.

Sorry all, this thread has gotten a little off topic, and that is probably my fault for trying to quote that funny AVIS ad from years ago.

From what I can gather, Paul is saying that there were issues with VAR SAVE and VAR RESTORE, but those issues were fixed by using VAR CLEAR. I think he was asking if others had seen that issue before. I suspect that something was corrupting the VAR SAVE somehow, and when you tried to use VAR RESTORE, it failed. VAR CLEAR would wipe the memory and thus fix the problem till next time. That's my take on it. Paul?
