I am thinking of a small project that would monitor a couple of voltage levels & switchs in a motor vehicle. The vehicle has a spare analog video input on the screen. With the myriad of mite variations out there which would be the simplest to set up for this task? I would have preference to use the existing analog screen so there were no mounting issues but if it becomes too complicated I will have to revert to a 28 pin chip with a 7 seg display and try to mount that tidily. You could build a Tellymate that will output B/W composite video in either PAL or NTSC, and send your data from the MM to that, and it will take care of generating the video signal for your monitor. I have used a few of these with great success. They are only white text on black background, but are simple to build, cheap, and effective if you just want some information on the screen in a composite video format. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Thanks Grogs, another option I have is to use one of the maximite variations that have vga/comp output but I would have to address the 12V to 5V drop. OA47 |

If mono is OK, I would go with circuitgizmos' CGMMSTICK1 Compact and well put together module. MMBasic V4.5 is still very usable. Jim VK7JH MMedit |

Yes Jim, have one out on the bench and I thought it would need a host board built up to provide the 12-5V reg and the video interface. Veroboard may have been the option but worried about reliability. On closer inspection I think I can mount the 3T reg on the CGMSTICK1 board and only need a jumper to provide the analog video out. Looks like a good contender at the moment. OA47 |

?? - The Maximite already has an on-board reg that can quite happily cope with 12v input from the power socket (2 regs - one for input to 5v, the other for 5v to 3.3v). Or have I missed something? B |

@ BrianP The CGMMSTICK1 cct shows a MCP1700 which is 6V max. I thought a complete Maximite unit a bit of an overkill for the purpose but you are right it does cover all bases. OA47 |

The $5 dual core WiFi capable ESP32 will output composite Do you want color? I use Android tablets as my displays and my ESP32s run small API (web)servers on them that just return JSON data for the webpage on the Android tablet to consume. |

@ Turbo46 Yes much the same as the CGMMSTICK without any 3T reg but the CGMMSTICK1 is winning as as I have a couple spare. @ LadyN I don't need color. But the inbuilt screen only allows me Composite video input. OA47 |

@ LadyN: Thanks for your link! That's very interesting! Do you have experience making composite video with an ODROID-GO? Frank |

Hi all, I wonder if Geoffs ASCII Video Terminal would be good? I made one and it works fine on VGA. Trevorc |

Hi Frank! I do not. I have very poor vision and that stops me from any small display project that cannot run on a TV or computer screen |
