The 10 bit GPS clocks will roll over next Tuesday if anybody is using the signal.

I am interested to see if my old Magellan 315 survives or not.

It says 6th April, which is not next Tuesday...

It's Saturday.

Did I miss something?

That's what comes from reading stuff written by a Polack who drives on the right side of the road.

8th here too, and my car's GPS is still working fine, along with my embedded project that uses the SimCom module. I'm rather glad about that, as the whole epoch thing suddenly made me a little nervous, as I never even considered that as an issue when designing from GPS data.....Whew!

My old Go Cruise car GPS from Aldi seems OK apart from it's battery not holding up. Hasn't been used for a while.

GPS in an old Samsung tablet going OK. Other newer ones OK. Old HTC phone GPS OK.

Just pulled the SD card out of the GPS Tracker (Geoff's SC project) in one of my vehicles for the first time in ages. It seems to be going OK as well.

May be another Y2k type non-event

Not really - lots of people had to make changes to fix Y2K code so it worked.

Here it's looking like the code already works.

@John

OK. I sit down corrected...Interesting to hear. So a lot of behind the scenes stuff on not publicised.

I personally didn't hear of any problems. There was a lot of testing & checking done where I worked.

But in the end, I think most things did go smoothly in 2000

Well, we have about 400 of our GPS modules stopped working.
The problem is they are built into vehicles and are very difficult to replace as they are always in use.
Tried for months to prepare for this but customers were not able to make time for it.
Now that it does not work, we of course get the blame. Oh well, what else to expect.
Replacing costs anywhere between 30.000 - 40.000 euro, which customers also not really want to pay.

Microblocks. Build with logic.

It won't lock on to satellites and the time jumps forward 17 seconds every 1 sec. At one point it was displaying a speed of 1000kmh sitting on the table. Seems a shame to throw it out but there is nothing else that can be done with it.

@MB

So much for my Non event. Sorry to hear about that.

@ajkw.

Does it have an AV input to use as a display for something?Edited by Chopperp 2019-04-10

It is circa 1999 hardware. Def no AV input. Has a nice sized graphic LCD screen, is backlit too which was pretty fancy in its day. Will have to break/cut into it to look at the internals but that would also give me the opportunity to find out what the rattle is inside that developed sometime ago..

MB certainly has some work to do.

Can these ones not have their firmware updated?
I guess you have to HAVE an updated firmware, and perhaps no upgrade is available...

The last firmware update I did was many years ago. There has been nothing since

I have however just sent a message to the manufacturer asking for a update. Don’t like my chances but you never know...

From the ABC:
A GPS clock rollover that experts predicted would have little impact because of years of advance notice has caused the grounding of the Bureau of Meteorology's (BOM) weather balloons:
