I'm starting to get sick of using Notepad as my daily planner. Can any members recommend a diary/planner/calendar program? I would need to be able to add appointments for certain times of certain days etc, and then I can just look at that to remind me what I have to do that day. Smoke makes things work. I am old-fashioned enough to use Microsoft Outlook 2003 version. I know how much you love Microsoft but this is something that actually works. Jim VK7JH MMedit |

I use Thunderbird Mail that has a column advising of upcoming events. "It is better to be ignorant and ask a stupid question than to be plain Stupid and not ask at all" |

Google Calendar works well on your Windoze computer, Android, etc. It's best features are that you can see at a glance what is coming up and it will remind you (email, popup, etc) well before the event. I live by it. Geoff Graham - http://geoffg.net |

I pretty much rely on Outlook's Calendar for all my appointments & job logging. It's always a mouse click away when I'm sitting at my desk.... So I'm not clueless when I'm away from the office, or at another PC, I run gSyncit on my PC. I then get the benefits mentioned above. It simply does a two way sync between my Google & Outlook Calendars. So all reminders are present in my phone, & I can log job times while I'm out. If I'm sitting at another PC or Laptop, I just open Google Calendar. Works a treat. |

If you don't mind using an Android phone, Google Assistant will tell you every morning, when you wake up, without any additional input needed from your side, your agenda for the day (and the weather). OF COURSE, you can ask it explicitly to do more. Entering appointments into Calendar using Google Assistant over voice works very well for my dad because he has RA and typing is painful. Since I can't speak, I have written some python code to interact directly with Google Calendar from the commandline. You have to authorize the script using OAuth which is very easy. This allows me to CRUD Google Calendar. When's my next history assignment due? Is our group study at 7 this evening or 8? If you can give me a little server to run Python on, I can set it up for you. This will allow you to update Google Calendar directly from your text editor (that supports Python plugins like Sublime Text). That would be real cool - you dont have to leave your text editor at all! You do everything from inside your text editor. If I try and schedule a group study at 7 this evening but dad won't be back until 6:45, I know I have to ask for a ride. Plus your phone picks up all these changes as well without you having to do anything! |

I've just had a quick look at this, and it seems perfect. My cellphone is Android, so I should be able to set it up on there too, so I can use my phone to check what else I have to do. Being web-based, I should also be able to run this inside Linux once I sign into my Google account with Chrome or similar - just thinking ahead for the move to Mint that I am planning to do...
