Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Apologies if this is is old news - this just turned up in in of the newsletters one finds oneself on...

And speaking of Linux…
Have any of our readers tried out Manjaro yet? Manjaro characterizes itself as "a professionally made Linux based operating system that is a suitable replacement for Windows or MacOS" and "Multiple Desktop Environments are available through our Official and Community editions." I was told by a colleague last week that Manjaro is the easiest way for getting your feet wet with Linux:

And also...

Linux programs that work on Windows
I've dabbled with Linux from time to time over the years, but until Microsoft released the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) for Windows 10 there hasn't been much I've wanted to do with it in a Windows environment. Recently I've started dabbling again, and I found this list of community powered list of programs that work (and those that don't) on the Windows subsystem for Linux and it's helpful as it illustrates what WSL can and can't support in its present incarnation:
https://github.com/ethanhs/WSL-Programs
If you're not that familiar yet with WSL you can install it on Windows 10 by following these instructions:
https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install-win10

Has Microsoft finally had a light bulb moment?

FWIW

Crikey!

I never thought I would see Microsoft actually publishing how to install a Linux on their Windows systems......

Sounds like a MS version of VirtualBox, which will do the same thing.

I have been using " Windows subsystem for Linux" for some time.
It is very handy when you want/need to use a Linux command without firing up the other box.

I have it on 2 W10 PCs and each one ended up with a different configuration, mainly because the first one was done during early beta stages.
