I just went through three different VGA->HDMI adapters and thought you may find this useful. First, a disclaimer that what I’m reporting is what works for my setup where my output screen is ASUS MG24U. I make absolutely no claims beyond what I tried which is the only monitor I tried. Your mileage may thus vary. Considerably. With the disclaimer out of the way here is what I found to be the case for my setup with the three adapters I tried: 1. Amazon Basics VGA to HDMI Amazon Basics No joy with this thing. No picture showing, nothing. Tried a couple of USB power sources to no avail. 2. QGeem VGA to HDMI adapter This one produced picture that’s very decent but stubbornly offset by 7 pixels to the right so that the last character on your screen gets cut off. This happened in every resolution above 320x200. Additionally 640x400 was pretty blurry. The deal breaker though was the 7 pixel shift. I don’t know if I got a bad copy of the adapter or if it’s a flaw they all share from this manufacturer but I decided I couldn’t put up with the issue so I kept looking (and buying) 3. GANA VGA to HDMI connector This one is really good. 800x600 mode is very crisp and no annoying timing shifts. Likewise 320x200 is very sharp. My only complaint about this adapter would be that 640x400 is noticeably more blurry than the other two modes I mentioned. I’m not sure if it’s the adapter or the implementation of Maximite but since the modes I mostly care about are sharp I’m sticking with this adapter. Hope this helped those of you seeking a way to use your Maximite with an HDMI display. |

Let me clarify that in 640x400 mode both the QGeeM and the GANA are about the same level of blurry so there is no reason for me to hang on to the QGeeM so it’s going back to Amazon as is the AmazonBasics one. |

To be honest, I just picked up an "IIyama ProLite PLE1906S LCD 4:3 Monitor (new in box)" on Ebay ... £20 Uk Sterlings. I already had an older model, this was a "howmuch" speculative punt on a spare. Works lovely, and has the correct aspect ratio. Old 4:3 LCD VGA displays are as cheap as chips these days. If you check out the retro PC scene you will find many and varied stories about monitor signal converters. Heatsinking the converter chips is often a good idea on the cheapy chinese ones. Basically YMMV Womble |
