G'day all, Not all my intended programs will need a big VGA screen. Some might be better on a smaller, more portable screen like an iPad. I think I know the answer to the first question but: 1) can one connect the CMM2 VGA output to an iPad (all the www talks about is the other way round which of course is easy. I am not proposing running my PC just to mirror to the iToy but rather a direct connection from the CMM2 - all-be-it with some adapter and/or an App); 2) can shedders recommend say a 10" screen that takes VGA input (preferably from personal experience)? 3) any comments? Cheers, Andrew |

I'm curious what others may say as I’ve been hoping to turn my CMM2 to an all-in-one or a laptop. Alas I don’t know enough about electronics to venture into this without some solid advice first. |

I'm planning to get a second MicroMite Colour 2 once people have gotten their fills first (don't wanna be greedy, would like more devs and first adopters before we hog the rest)... But then I will make a laptop with it, I'll design a Retro Looking "C-64" style laptop chassis for it as I have a monster sized 3D printer. Planning to find some old laptop screens I can remove, those are often VGA compatible with the inverterboard and all, just need to solder a plug for it and find the pinouts and remove the driver IC. I will keep the forum posted on this WHEN I get this far, ya betcha! |

I have used a small standalone VGA monitor such as this one with a Colour Maximite 1 and it works perfectly therefore should be no reason why it would not work with a CMM2. Mine is a 7 inch but the 10 inch shown should also be OK (in fact, any that has a VGA input should work). If you wanted to, you could then pull the display and electronics out of its case and mount in a laptop style case. Sending the VGA to a tablet or phone is an entirely different kettle of fish and I would guess without some fairly heavy duty conversion from the analogue VGA to a digital stream and then some casting app to get it to the tablet, it is not really a practical road to take. Depending on your application, the ARMMite H7 using the ST32H743 could be a solution as it supports a whole range of smaller TFT displays built it. Doug. ... almost all of the Maximites, the MicromMites, the MM Extremes, the ArmMites, the PicoMite and loving it! |

Hi Andrew, I bought something like this to play around with an old laptop's TFT screen I salvaged.. VGA-Laptop screen Note! I Didn't not buy that model specifically or know if that one even works... It is the `concept'. I will try to dig out my screen and the adapter and try to take some pictures and see how it runs on the CMM2. Hi Andrew, All, Hey I found it and it works well. The yellow on the screen looks white but is actually beautiful colour as expected. ![]() The board looks to be the identical one in my link also (that is always a plus) ![]() I used a 15.6" screen I salvaged.. The beauty is the screen is so thin, it can be mounted on a wall or in a thin frame etc if you can get the bezel it even looks great but in my case the bezel was broken. I have a 7 inch LCD purchased for the CMM1 many years ago. ![]() The display is sharp and steady but 800x600 is way too small for my eyes. Other modes are fine and one day, I will get the touch working. For the original, I did it by directly reading the x y resistances in basic but next time I will do it properly and use the touch IC. There are plenty around that take VGA and HDMI as well as composite. Jim VK7JH MMedit |

https://www.thebackshed.com/forum/ViewTopic.php?FID=16&TID=12374#150490 That Idea was briefly touch on in a thread I started about making a project to integrate a CMM2 into a keyboard making more retro feeling then some else suggested making a laptop Like the PITOP. |
