Sorry for blank post (Edit not working here on Firefox). One thing that is not clear to this beginner is which pins on the CMM2 rear connector can be set to DIN or DOUT.
Senior?!  Whatever it says, I'm a complete and utter beginner...

From the manual, just below the table describing the pinout (page 10):
  Quote  Except for the power and ground pins (shown as shaded grey) all pins can be used for digital I/O using the
PIN() function and command and using the pin number as the reference. For example pin 3 can be set to an
output using SETPIN 3, DOUT and then the pin set high (ie, to 3.3V) using the command PIN(3)=1.

D'oh!  In the manual, of course. MUST remember to RTM. Sorry for brainless question!
