I've found a little known widescreen mode which is surprisingly supported by nearly all widescreen monitors 848x640@60Hz and is within the capabilities of the CMM2. Apparently this was the first widescreen mode way back when. This is now available in V5.05.05b21 as mode 10. It can also be used as the default mode OPTION DEFAULT MODE 10 This will fill a widescreen monitor with square pixels and has almost exactly the same aspect ratio as 1080p. If you have a widescreen monitor with a VGA input please try it. I have no idea if it will work through a HDMI adapter This mode should not be used for programs to be distributed as not all users may be able to show it, but it is excellent for editing when you have a widescreen monitor. NB: OPTION DEFAULT MODE is now preserved when updating firmware. ![]() Edited 2020-08-28 00:31 by matherp |

There is any chance to create another video resolution using doubled pixels? (424x240) This will open a great world to make games with widescreen support. |

I deliberately didn't do this because otherwise some users will be disenfranchised because they don't have the right monitor. If you remember back to the first attempts at widescreen the modes were the same for both widescreen and normal precisely to avoid this issue. The intent now is simply to have a default mode that can be used on widescreen monitors to allow full screen editing etc. |

Wouldn't doubled be 424x320? John |

The widescreen mode 10 works well on my monitor but the monitor doesn't switch between wide and normal modes easily, so I think I will spend most of the time in mode 1 or 9 Jim VK7JH MMedit |

It works well for me too Peter! It took about 10s for the auto sync on the monitor to stop adjusting but after that it looks great Kind Regards Mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |

My 16:10 display will show 320x200 and 640x400 (which are 16:10 ratios) full screen, if I select "Zoom" for the aspect setting. Maybe you could take the centre 320x180 from mode 3, or the centre 640x360 from mode 2, and show as full screen on a 16:9 display with it zoomed in. 640x360 divides evenly into 1280x720 HD or 1920x1080 Full HD resolution (as does 320x180). I think it's likely to work for some displays, at least. update: just tried it on an old computer monitor, that one didn't do it. Edited 2020-09-14 01:22 by capsikin |
