We have a new version of the Colour Maximite 2's firmware and documentation available for download from https://geoffg.net/maximite.html  (scroll to the bottom of the page).

This is Ver 5.05.05 and is a significant release which wraps up all the changes made in the recent beta versions from Peter.  It is worth upgrading, even if you are running the latest beta version.

The source code at http://mmbasic.com  has been updated and if you have downloaded any previous versions of the source you can use the same link to download this version.

Enjoy!

Checked out the release note. Sounds brilliant. Really appreciate 320 x 240, which gives me a nice 8-bit like 4:3 aspect ratio to work with.

Do you think that 512 x 384 could be added as an additional mode (double the ZX Spectrum resolution) or do the chip timings not work out?

hi!

Does any usb A to usb A cable work?  I just got one in the mail.  I plugged it into the keyboard connector and the computer like the manual says and cube programmer says "No DFU detected" under port.

What am I doing wrong?  Does the USB-A to USB-A need to be a certain kind?

I've only ever updated the firmware with the regular usb-b cable

I had the cmm2 on, I type "update firmware" then the screen goes black like always, I plug the usb-a to usb-a into the keyboard port and into the computer.  I don't hear the device plugged in sound.  The maximite is still plugged in with the usb-b cable. cube programmer doesn't see the other connection. I can update with the uart the slow way without the usb-a cable.

Do you have move the switch to "SYSTEM" before connecting the USB to the KB port ?
Theory is when we know everything but nothing work ...
Practice is when everything work but no one know why ;)

I used the "update firmware" command from the keyboard.  Does usb-a to usb A only work from the switch and not from "update Firmware" command?  I don't want to have to open the case every time we get a firmware update.

I don't think so.  I made mine by cutting off an "A" plug from another cable and soldering the wires together.  Worked fine for me.

Not answering your question, but I think the ZX Spectrum screen looks better with a bit of extra space to be used as the border. Especially text. Maybe some games would be good full screen though.

From the manual "Make sure that the Type-B USB power cable to the Colour Maximite is disconnected". Although I think I needed to have it plugged in. So I would suggest trying all three ways:

USB B cable disconnected.
USB B cable connected to power supply.
USB B cable connected to same computer as USB A-A cable.
