About 50% of the time when I type OPTION CONSOLE SAVE the CMM2 reboots and enters initial setup mode and loses all of my settings. At first a low battery was suspected but I measured it with a multimeter and it's strong at 2.95V. Other times it enters initial setup mode when I first power on. Could this be a bug? I'm running 5.05.05 Thanks Jay Crutti: Ham Radio Operator, K5JCJ. Computer Enthusiast. Musician. Engineer. |

Do you have anything connected to pin 40? If on startup the system thinks pin 40 is low it will reset OPTIONS. Micromites and Maximites! - Beginning Maximite |

Nope, pin 40 is disconnected. The only connections I have going to the expansion port are the RS232 circuit described in the manual, connected to COM2. ![]() Edited 2020-10-12 07:18 by frnno967 Jay Crutti: Ham Radio Operator, K5JCJ. Computer Enthusiast. Musician. Engineer. |

By "Initial setup mode" do you mean that it asks you to set the date and time or do you just loose your saved options? VK7JH MMedit |

The prompts asking for my keyboard region (UK, US, etc,.), the time then date. And all options that I usually change like repeat rate, disabling the serial console, etc, are reset to defaults. Jay Crutti: Ham Radio Operator, K5JCJ. Computer Enthusiast. Musician. Engineer. |

Replace the battery - almost certainly the issue. If you have a Waveshare based system make sure all the jumpers are removed Edited 2020-10-12 07:35 by matherp |

![]() What's strange about it though is that it hasn't actually lost the settings. I just noticed that if I power cycle it instead of entering the requested information, on subsequent reboot it will still have the previous time, date, and options remembered from before. It's like the routine that checks for the RTC and OPTION ram info is failing sometimes. But I'll start with the battery and report back. I have the SMD version. If it helps at all, here's a video of the "bug" in action. Going to buy a battery now. https://photos.app.goo.gl/dVsmZG9enZv9cwpp8 Jay Crutti: Ham Radio Operator, K5JCJ. Computer Enthusiast. Musician. Engineer. |

I posted on another post about power supplies. Was getting that same fault as well when I had it on a finicky fluctuating powered USB hub. I switched to a good USB charger and have never had it happen again. Just another thing to try. |

![]() That was it!! Thanks man, much appreciated! Changing the battery didn't fix it, but a different USB power supply did. Edited 2020-10-12 09:24 by frnno967 Jay Crutti: Ham Radio Operator, K5JCJ. Computer Enthusiast. Musician. Engineer. |

Seems I declared victory too quickly. It's still happening. It worked for an hour then after that it went back to the previous behavior. I've replaced the battery and tried 5 different power adapters. ![]() Jay Crutti: Ham Radio Operator, K5JCJ. Computer Enthusiast. Musician. Engineer. |

So sorry, I was glad that I had helped. I hope you figure it out. EDIT: you said that you had a serial circuit on the GPIO right maybe for a moment take it off. Could it be causing a drain or fluxuaton on the power of the system? I really am just spitballing to figure what this could be. Edited 2020-10-12 12:10 by mclout999 |

Yeah, that was the first thing I tried. It's so frustrating for what is an otherwise awesome experience. Edited 2020-10-12 12:24 by frnno967 Jay Crutti: Ham Radio Operator, K5JCJ. Computer Enthusiast. Musician. Engineer. |

I know how that feels. I was pulling my hair out before I figured out it was the power source. If anything else hits me I will tell you. |

What version are your running? Try setting the keyboard repeat to >25. There was a bug in some earlier versions with this |

Load the latest version on the end of this thread and see if the problem still happens. If it does then there is an electrical issue somewhere. The firmware checks the option area for valid data and only enters the initialisation sequence if it finds the option date invalid. As long as the battery is OK it should always be valid after the first time. Which board are you using? Waveshare or all-in-one? Who made it? To be pedantic, only set the keyboard type you are using and the time, don't change any other options and see it the issue still occurs |
