Hi all. I'm a virgin poster so please be gentle. I have built the E100/Silicon Chip Radio and everything seems to be in order except for one thing. When I type in the option "OPTION TOUCH 1,40,39" I get the reply Pin 1 is reserved on startup. Can someone please offer an solution.I have searched but did not find anything.I have also tried different versions of firmware but again no success. Cheers, dishlikker. |

I would expect that error, if you have ALREADY configured the touch at some other time, but you mention loading different firmwares and still having the problem - that's odd, as flashing a new firmware should erase all the old options.... Try typing OPTION TEST TOUCH and see what it does or says. If the touch is already configured, you should be able to draw freehand on the LCD with a finger or LCD pen thing. Press any key to quit that and clear the LCD. That should be showing up in the OPTIONS LIST though, which is another thing that is odd. How are you powering your E100? They are quite thirsty, so they need a good quality power-supply. Your laptop or PC USB port is probably not going to cut it. You should use a dedicated REGULATED plug-pack with the DC barrel connector on it, not a USB cable with a barrel connector on it, as they are often sub-standard, use very thin wires inside and suffer from voltage drop which can cause odd things to happen if the E100 is not getting the current it wants to suck. Just an little update on this, as I was setting up an E100 unit for a client, and I loaded the 5.05.01 firmware, and can setup all the options just fine - I got no complaint about pin-1 being reserved. ![]() @ dishlikker: have you tried another regulated power-pack yet? With a 5" LCD connected and initialized, the current consumption from 5v is about 400mA, so you really need a 5v @ 1A fully regulated plug-pack. Something like this from Jaycar: LINK Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I have powered the unit with suitable plug packs. The current situation is when OPTION LIST is entered, the display and touch options are listed.Unfortunately the touch screen is not responding so I will order a new screen (I need another anyway) and see what happens when it arrives. Thanks again.Cheers. |

Hi The project was published in Jan, Feb & Mar 2019 & is available on line (at a price if not a subscriber :-). Jan Issue From what I could see from the website, there were no published issues with it. They normally list any notes & errata regarding their projects. Does your LCD actually HAVE the touch controller? Some LCD's(the cheaper ones) don't fit the touch controller chip at all. These are LCD only modules, and don't support touch, as they have not fitted the touch controller IC, and also not the touch membrane thing to the top of the LCD. Cheaper for a reason. ![]() ![]() ![]() Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |
