Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hello in The Shed!

I stumbled upon this 100 pins STM32H743VIT6 board from taobao.com, on BangGood.

But who on earth would ever be thinking of using such a thingy for anything serious?

Assuming it worked reliably with MMBasic (excluding the camera) (and an alternate F4 did not), what would be your objection to this module?

The many fewer pins must inevitably mean all sorts of things are lost, for not that much cost saving really.

I suppose if you really want it, ask matherp for the source and hack it.  (Be aware of the licence conditions, of course.)

Pins for the external DRAM are missing - that's a NoGo!
(for example PH5-WE, PG15-CAS, PF11-RAS)

Honestly,

I would avoid these "black" boards.
I had the F407 board that others used to run Armmite on, and it only worked for a while with the serial port, though not via USB. I bought another one, that one works.
Then I bought a mini F4 board (as Lizby used) and I never got it to work.
Lizby's board also worked miraculously for a while, and then, for no reason, stopped working.

Maybe these boards are not as reliable as the ST demo boards.

But strangely the USB firmware upgrade over USB (Qube)keeps working on these boards. Only the MMBASIC port (Armmite) is unreliable. Maybe related to the crystal oscillator configuration (the USB firmware upgrade works on the internal RC oscillator).

Volhout said  . . . I had the F407 board that others used to run Armmite on, and it only worked for a while with the serial port, though not via USB. I bought another one, that one works.

If this F407 is meant, I have a half-dozen of those which work fine (with/without LCD). The first one I had to flash MMBasic with serial port, but none of the rest, and I successfully reflashed the original in the standard manner (and don't know what went wrong originally).

I like the cost, the form factor, the speed, the number of pins. Nothing wrong with this module that I know of.

I just received a Nucleo a couple of days ago, plus 5 pcs 28pins + Picbridges chips.
So I do believe i got my hands full for the next many weeks, while the Corona numbers are still increasing, not reached crescendo yet.

As mentioned i just stumbled upon this board, and searching this forum (using Google: http://www.thebackshed.com/forum/ Search-phrase - works fairly) didn't find any mentioning of it, so i was merely paying your attention to the board.

@lizby, - i haven't a clue about the camera, or if MMBasic runs or not, and i'm not planning any purchase in the near future.

@JonhS - i called it discount, but that's not fair, as approx 40% off of the pins resembles approx 40% off of the price, seems to be a fair deal.

Still 100 pins is a lot of pins and if it suits ones need, i will second lizby in this:

BTW here are Schematic, PCB Print and BOM.
It seems that some mcauser have made it possible to run µPython on the board.
