Hi all I am building my CMM2 into a Commodore 64 breadbin keyboard case. I have the keyboard on the C64 routed through a Arduino ProMicro - and it appears as a USB keyboard (not fully tested as only just assembled it tonight). I plan to us an SD Card slot extender: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Extension-LANMU-Convertor-Extender-Raspberry/dp/B07H2RQFNN/ref=sr_1_4?crid=1EGTETLPKRWD9&dchild=1&keywords=sd+card+extender+cable&qid=1615935657&sprefix=sd+card+extender%2Caps%2C144&sr=8-4 to bring the sd card to the outside of the case. Extending the VGA is fine as Male > Female are readily available. Q: I want to extend the 40 pin breakout -- it this the same as a 40 pin IDE? Would https://www.amazon.co.uk/IDE-Extension-Cable-Male-Female/dp/B075D6CQLQ/ref=sr_1_14?crid=3AMPKGKOKWFZH&dchild=1&keywords=40+pin+extension&qid=1615935403&sprefix=40+pin+ex%2Caps%2C145&sr=8-14 work to extend? It would work BUT, some IDE cables have one pin blocked out on the female end for keying and it looks like one pin is missing in the photo of the male end. Photos of products are notoriously unreliable. Jim VK7JH MMedit |

A good thing to mention with these Raspberry PI GPIO backout is that they are exactly inverted as Keyed. If you line up the key notches on the cables with the male headers everything is flipped as far as the labels on the adapter goes. |

More important - many of the RPi breakouts have the ground and 5V etc lines tied together. If you plug it in the wrong way, the CMM2 will not be happy. Its relatively simple to reverse one of the IDE connectors or modify your CMM2 socket to allow it to plug in the other way around. Jim VK7JH MMedit |

Jim Thanks all I already have a PI breakout (with the cutout reversed) functioning perfectly. ;-) I might just go for a longer ribbon cable to connect the CMM2 to the breakout and place some breadboard on the top of the C64 case. Thanks all. N Entropy is not what it used to be |

Hi Nimue, How far do you need to extend the GPIO bus? My PCB that accommodates 2 x HobbyTronics USB Host Modules (for USB mouse/Joystick etc) would allow approx a 50mm extension (without the HT modules) Here is a picture without the HT modules installed.. You wont need the other components just the Male and Female R/A headers to be a plain old extender. ![]() Regards, Mick Mick's uMite Stuff can be found >>> HERE (Kindly hosted by Dontronics) <<< |
