Hi all.

G2 unit.

Plug in USB mouse, OPTION MOUSE 0 at console.  All four solder-blobs are blobbed.  IC5 is NOT installed.

EDIT or FILES results in mouse pointer showing up at top-left, but about two seconds later, a message: "Mouse timeout 1"

I have tried several different mice from old to new, but they all report the same issue.  Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?

Firmware 5.07.01

I don't have a MS Basic mouse, but I will have to get one I think.

Page 63 of the user manual states that if enabled, but not plugged in and working, I will get an error message - which is what I am getting, so I am wondering if it is simply that the mice I have here, are ALL USB-only type, so don't respond to the firmware trying to talk to them in PS/2 mode.

Is that the most likely cause do you think?

Yes, It is the most likely cause.  Did you carefully inspect your solder joints and are the 2 required resistors installed?  Mine came with them installed but yours may not be.  If they are not on the board there is now mouse circuit.  When you turn the CMM2 on does the mouse light come on?  If it does not it could be a USB-only mouse, the resistors could be missing or you have a bad solder joint.

I assume you mean R80 and R81 - they are installed.
None of the mice I have tried light up at all, so I kinda suspect USB-only mice.

I have ordered a MS basic optical mouse for the grand sum of eighteen bucks.....

I assume my command syntax is OK?
IE: OPTION MOUSE 0 - that is correct for the USB port mouse so long as no IC5 fitted, and the solder blobs are blobbed - correct?

Just want to make sure I am doing everything right.

The very first G2 I played with, I fitted the HT USB mouse chip(IC5) and those mice work on that unit, but not the one without IC5, so I think it is simply that these mice do not like the taste of the PS/2 signals.

OPTION MOUSE 0 is correct.

The Microsoft basic optical mouse is a nice mouse and easier than adapting an old PS/2 mouse...

Just reporting that my MS Basic optical mouse arrived, and it works just fine.
I will be recommending this mouse in my sales blurb I send off with every unit.

There's also a version with a scroll wheel: the Microsoft Scroll Wheel Optical Mouse 1.1A USB/PS/2. The scroll wheel works perfectly on the CMM2 2nd Gen. This one may be easier to use for those people who are used to the third button/scroll wheel.

My one has a scroll wheel also.

The sticker on the bottom of the mouse says: "Microsoft Basic Optical Mouse v2.0"

Perhaps v1 had no scroll wheel, and v2 does?

The mouse that works well, is that the (Microsoft own order number).

58-00060 ?
58-00061 ?
58-00062 ?

Or is this the wrong type of mouse.

It looks like 00060 is white, 00061 is black and 00062 is white. I can't see a difference between 00060 and 00062. All three should work with CMM2

MICROSOFT BASIC OPTICAL MOUSE V2.0
Model 1113

These do state USB/PS2 compatible but I have seen images of the same V2.0 MOUSE without PS2 mentioned so 'buyer beware'

The box it came in does NOT mention PS/2 compatible but does contain the adapter (which we don't need)
