Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi folks,

This may or may not have come with a Yihua 878AD hot air rework station that was amongst the things @lew247 generously gave me some time back, he doesn't recognise it, does anybody else ?

Additionally can anyone tell me if the 858 nozzles that are available at around the 8 UKP mark on eBay are compatible with the 878, e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/284432369541 or if not then point me at a better bet.

Best wishes,

Tom

"It's a lay-o'er to catch meddlers!" as my grandma used to reply to our repetative questions of "What's that, Grandma?".  :)

I'm wondering if it's some sort of specialist de-soldering device for a through-hole part, to put tension on it from one side while the iron is on the other. Only a guess.

Nope, you got me this time.

Do I get a point for guessing that it's for de-soldering?
:)

Scroll down for a pic showing how to use it

Or you could sharpen the points and use it as a barbeque fork

At least it seems to be better than the infamous paperclip that burns a ridge across your fingers.  :)
If anyone here manages to use one successfully, please let me know. It might even be a useful addition to the kit.

I've got a couple of 64 pin chips to replace once the replacements arrive. Will report back success or otherwise.

CAUTION!  Whatever you do, keep them APART.
We don't want them breeding (that's the pictured items of course!)
