Hello, PicoMiteVGA really rules :-) and this gets me to question: Would it be possible to generate Video Signal to connect PicoMite to Reverse Camera Monitors. as it is great source for cheap displays. br Daniel |

I think they use composite vs. vga signal .... my site |

Most of those monitors, as far as I can see, only accept composite video. Connecting to a Pico would require a video standards converter or a complete rewrite of the Pico video section. Peter has said the Pico is complete, no more major work so the latter is unlikely, thus you will need to research the former. |

VGA to Composite About halfway down is a circuit using the AD724 chip and a few passive components (ignoring the bottom half of that circuit!) I have no idea if that chip is available, or how well it works, but the it looks interesting. led Miss you George |

I'd simply use a VGA-to-composite video converter. They can be had for about $15 or so. VGA-to-AV converter Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

A MMBasic Geoff project directly generating composite video has been done before IIRC. I really like those backup camera monitors, cheap and nicely cased. Gen1 Honda Insights. |

Yes, composite B/W video only though. Not colour. ![]() That was the Maximite generation 1, or the ASCII terminal. Smoke makes things work. When the smoke gets out, it stops! |

Yes. B/W is more that enough. RPi Pico generating composite video + Backup Camera Monitor + few relays will make nice package to controlling and display parameters with easy on the field possibility to adjust code thanks to MMbasic. maybe Peter will unfreeze, some day, RPi Pico project and will add that option to firmware or it will be 3rd firmware flavor. br Daniel |

I know it's an extra box, but the little converters are usually pretty good (I used a VGA-HDMI one for years when I had a non-HDMI monitor). You have to house the PicoMite somewhere so why not take a converter to bits, do away with the plugs & sockets and put it in the same box? People wanting HDMI output could do a similar thing. The case used for the CMM2 should be big enough, I think. Even the case mentioned some time ago that takes a PCB about 100mm square might be suitable. Of course, if you want a control system you might be better using a SSD1963 5" or 7" display to get the touch screen. I know you don't get the fancy case, but I assume that you're going to want controls. Mick Zilog Inside! nascom.info for Nascom & Gemini Preliminary MMBasic docs & my PCB designs |

The used 640x480 monochrome video mode is around the native visible area of a PAL screen. It may be posible to use the composite sync mode, some resistors, and maybe tune the framerate to 50hz. When my pico arrives, i'll look into it. My experience with the vga cvbs convertors, om a larger tv, is not that good. But it may be fine for a car monitor. EDIT: WON'T WORK. PAL and NTSC are interlaced at 15.6kHz. VGA is most likely 32 kHz Edited 2022-02-09 01:24 by Volhout PicomiteVGA PETSCII ROBOTS |
