Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Here's an interesting piece of hardware that, with MMBasic, would recreate the venerable old Tandy 102. And yes, I think MMBasic could be considered an operating system.

Sometimes I'm sad because there are too many interesting things in this world to learn...

I saw that, and had much the same thoughts, but in a rare moment of rationality I've decided not to buy one.

Best wishes,

Tom

As I understand it RISC-V is an alternative RISC processor architecture to that licensed by ARM.

It is not to be confused with RISCOS 5 which is an operating system that runs (mostly) on ARM processors .

Aside: I am a member of a RISCOS user group - I don't much care for RISCOS but it's an opportunity to talk about computers and technology in person. Despite my ambivalence I am spending some of each month's meeting porting MMBasic to RISCOS. It's proving slow work even to get C compiling, RISCOS is an operating system where the file separator character is '.' so instead of files having the extensions .c and .h they instead need to have no extensions but be in directories named C and H, crazy stuff!

Best wishes,

Tom

Yes, it has nothing to do with the os.   It is a new opensource RISC processor tech that organizations can develop new compatible silicon for that can then be licensable if they chose.  There are a plethora of Youtube videos on it if you want to learn more.

It is not a Tandy model 102. It is a model 51. Meaning, it is half the size.
Like the mini C64....

( Not to digress ) ...
The mouse is used somewhat different .
I think if RISC would bow to convention ,
( in those small subtleties )
it would perhaps it would perhaps gain
in popularity .
My Raspberry Pi runs much faster on a
SD 1 / 10 of the size of Linux !
( but few developed applications )
