I'm building the Picomite VGA 1.3 board and in my Newark Order I was backordered the TC1264 low dropout regulator Farnell 1852189. my question is can I power the Picomite VGA from USB Though the Pico? what kind of P/s supply is it really wanting ?

The PicoMiteVGA should work OK when powered from the MicroUSB connector on the Pico.

You almost certainly can if the 3V3EN pin hasn't been pulled low on the board. I can't remember how Peter arranged it now.

You can power the pico (vga) through USB, no problem.I tested this because the TC1264 in Germany is out of stock, too. I built me an adaptor board for the AMS1117 3.3 V LDO and it perfectly works. This part is more widely available. Even for the level shift transistors there are no parts in europe, so I used the 2N7000 instead (PINOUT!!!!).

FYI the TC1264-3.3VAB is in stock at Mouser for $1.33

I would NOT recommend the LM1117T-3.3 regulator as an alternate because the pinout is different.

I ordered BST72A's (as Peter designed it for) from Farnell. Maybe I had the last stock ?

The problem with Mouser here:

TC1264-3.3VAB  1off   1.02 UKP  (on 8 weeks delivery though)
Delivery (cheapest)  12.00 UKP

Fine if you happen to want over 30 UKP's worth of stuff, otherwise don't bother.

Any TO220 LDO 3.3V regulator will do as long as it has the standard 7805 style pinout.

The Problem with Mouser here is:
if I order it for $1.33 it will take 10-12 days to get here on a Slow boat across the west Texas Desert Via USPS and that will drive me mad, so I'm going to drive the 70 miles each way to the $1.33 part with Gas @ near $4.50 / Gallon in a Truck that gets 20 MPG _$12 each way in tolls and a waste of 2 hours of my Valued time
The Real problem is I'm just dumb enough to be there Monday morning @ 8:00 am to get $1.33 part

Wow...  you're taking this *really* seriously. lol

I'd order something similar (i.e. as described by Peter above) from ebay/Amazon and in the meantime power the PicoMite via its USB socket. (Don't fit the 3V3EN link on a 1.3 board). The onboard SMPS will easily supply enough 3V3 unless you plug in a load of expansion stuff.

RickardS,
I just mentioned Mouser because I thought you were going to pickup the Adafruit MicroSD 3.3 volt breakout board from Mouser also.

You board will probably work fine without it.

Might as well get the parts for Mick’s PicoMite VGA game PCB a few posts down…
