Gday All,

I am designing a small Pi-Pico backPack board on 50mm square format for, primarily, my own purposes as due to the price of the pi-pico and it’s availability both being better than an MX170 chip itself it seems the best direction for me to go down.

I am wondering why no one seems to use the SD card that’s on the 14 pin SPI TFTs that are out there.
All the signals seem to be there on a 4 pin header so it would take less real estate to run a 4way cable to the TFT instead of adding a socket on the daughter board.

Am I missing something here?
Is it a bad idea for some reason?
Is there a compelling reason to have the SD socket on the daughter board?

Kind Regards,

Mick

I've used one on one of the ILI9341 displays. Easy enough to use, but they put series resistors on the signal lines. I had problems getting a PicoMite to work with some SD cards until I shorted those out. Otherwise they are fine. I had to solder my own 4-pin header on though - it's not included.

I think the main problem with the display SD card sockets is that they are in a bit of an awkward place. Not much use if you want to mount the display behind a panel.

I do use it.
Sometimes some manipulations with resistors in signal paths required(delete/lower/increase).

Thanks All,

My TFT seems to have no resistors but I will recheck that.

Thank you all,

Regards,

Mick
