Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

another one leaves its users in the lurch.  countless home automation, camera, internet radio etc... etc... not to mention "updates" that bust stuff, add "features" you don't want/ask for and move stuff around at the developers whim.

Never been more impetus to home brew and so do-able now-a-days.

I wouldn't touch a CotS system that relied on a network connection with a sh*tty stick.

hah! I said exactly this to a friend a while back when he was going to get an "Alexa" (shakes head) - "If the government said everyone had to have a listening device in their homes, there would be uproar. Give it a cute name and charge people $99 for it and they'll line up in droves."

YT is replete with vids of Alexa being asked awkward questions and it either refuses to answer or outright lies.

Went back to real books, back in 2010.

George Orwell's 1984 and Aldus Huxley's Brave New World.

I thought they were crazy at the time

I also read a Dean Koontz novel that mentioned a wuhan virus

It is too late.... google is everywhere, even when you are "offline"...

1/ try to get "of the chart", just leave all electronics behind, camp into the woods (if there are any near by) and within a week google knows where you are/where.

2/ discuss topic X with your wife, but do NOT show any intention of this discussion o the internet. Within 24 hours you will see commercials of that topic in your browser. The (android) phone is recording your words, even if you have voice recognition off.

I have experience both. I am not making a fuzz about it, but it is fact.

@Volhout

Which is precisely why phones with removable batteries are harder to come by.

I have had the same experience; discuss some obscure product with someone (phone laying on the desk) and I start receiving ad's for said product.

i don't mean to be a smart-alec, but
Beware of 'Confirmation Bias' ( pls. Google it )
as a species, we have a long history of believing in things that are not there,
granted, sometimes they are there, hard to know the difference.
Try swapping 2 and 3 over

There is also a problem with people believing everyth that the media tells them even though the facts were published many years ago

It's the reason that I haven't watched a TV in more than 12 years.

"it's true....it were on t' telly"

One teeny tiny example that can't be erased:

The fact that this guy has since died a "mysterious death" is totally reasonable to YOU?

Sorry Tinine, I've disabled your account. No explanation needed I'm sure.

Stick to what this forum is about guys, all the other crap can be discussed on facebook where it belongs.
