I really need to do this.

Pretty much every night, I read my tablet in bed and all too often I fall asleep and the tablet drops on my face  . Good thing I have a soft rubber protector on it.

Laser printers use electrons and I think all printers use them???
There used to be office laser printers that you could print a pcb and "iron" on a pcb.
I got an epson and tried reset on the inks, worked but still expensive for printing the mmb manual.

I have a Brother colour laser printer (originally chosen because they produce proper drivers for linux). Although they cost more than an inkjet you get a heck of a lot of prints out of the toner cartridges. I got mine just after I retired five years ago and so far I've only had to replace the black toner - and a third party cartridge has worked perfectly. I've printed the manual a couple of times. I use A5 paper and print double-sided. Pages are punched with a 6-hole punch and put into a loose-leaf binder. It works out nicely and I can add extra comment pages whenever I want to. :)

"Good thing I have a soft rubber protector on it."

Having a soft rubber protector on your face must bring other complications.
e.g. eating, drinking, kissing etc.

Actually, that would have been useful a few months ago when I got sucker-punched in the pub

Hi folks,
I'm of the old school as well as Andreas. I have always preferred a good old paper manual. With a few well placed 'post-it' notes, I find it much easier to refer back/ forwards to recap, rather than scrolling up and down a lot. I know you can set bookmarks but invariably there would be too many to be comfortable. I appreciate the work that goes into writing and keeping on top of documents but how difficult would be to add a change log (Rhetorical).. Then each time there is a new issue we could just print the relevant pages, to keep it all up to date.
I'm not expecting an explanation of every change,  a page number would be sufficient to either make a note in the manual or print the relevant (New) page a fresh. This might result in a couple of half pages but it's got to be better than reprinting the whole tome again.
This is my first post here, I've been reading this forum for a long time now, but only just starting, hands on, since retiring earlier in the year.
The whole development of the Mite family has been fascinating as are the key players.

Many thanks for all your hard work & as said I'm very appreciative.
PeterB, beat me to it
Thank you one and all.
Regards,
PeteM

I wonder if you could find the changes this way:

1. convert each manual (PDF) to text (there are tools for this)
2. compare, just to find the changed pages

Grep Regex is a program that can compare huge textfiles and filter them... But yes a change log would be cool, because every time I think "NOW I AM GONNA print out this monster of manual" but let me just wait for the next revision and changes... So I am ending up not doing it.

I do this with Notepad++ and a plugin.
I use grep/regex to find and replace specific passages of text.
PDF's are very useful because I can store thousands on my PC, search for passages of text and print them out at will - even parts.
Thanks to Geoff and the other makers of the manuals. Without the manuals, the Mites would only be worth a fraction.

I'm in exactly this position, though I do have the considerable slimmer manual for MMBasic 4.5 printed out that I still often refer to when I forget the BASICs.

Best wishes,

Tom

I can barely function without a printed reference.  Yeah, sure I can use the PDF on the screen sometimes... but my brain is wired for bound paper references.

Hello again.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will give them a try and see how easy it is to target the changes, just as soon as I've downloaded the latest version. I'm still hoping a change log can be brought in. Especially as I think the manuals ate reaching maturity and the actual changes are probably fairly small.

It will be next week, now, before I can do anything signicant.
Thanks again for the suggestions and obviously the s/w and h/w creators of a brilliant system.
Regards
PeteM

My main reason for printing the manual isn't primarily because I prefer it on paper (although I do), it's because I only have one monitor and, due to awkward to reach buttons screen menus and synchronising delay, it's a pain switching it between hdmi and VGA. Consequently, if I'm programming I can't see the manual or refer to the forum. I tried putting the manual on a tablet but it's such a faff using it on there - especially as it keeps timing out and switching off to save the battery.

Ditto, what I do sometimes is print out important tables or information  and laminate them for scribbling on as a cheat sheet. A little bit of nail varnish remover and it's as good as new......... well she does pinch my razors so I reckon we're evens.

Yeah I wanted to a paper CMM-2 Manual and a Picomite Manual, but when Kinkos said they were going to cost like $65 each, I was sad until I went to microcenter and bought 20 more Picos with the Money :) a real book would be so nice but the cost is prohibitive

I got my Micromite manual printed by an online company. I supplied a suitably edited PDF file, filled in an online form & paid. A few days later it was delivered - and they made a nice job of it. Cheaper than getting it done at a local printers.
