Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Hi Together,
I am 38 years old. Started in my youth with QuickBasic. Professionally I first worked with Java and later with Python. First embedded experiences with Arduino and micropython until I discovered mmBasic. That showed me how easy embedded programming can be. Thanks Geoff, thanks Peter ;-)

I am sure if many of the younger Arduino / Python fanboys would get to know mmBasic, they would switch just like me.

I dunno... Kids nowadays.....   ;)

I did a little bit with QuickBasic at work and, nuch later, a bit of Python on a RPi. I rather enjoyed the latter in a masochistic sort of a way, being told off for having brackets in the wrong places or stuff simply not working for the same reason. It was worse than soddin' lisp sometimes! (That was fun - AutoLisp running inside AutoCAD).

Lol! Perhaps it's a good thing if it drops the mean age a little.  :)

no one under 30 uses basic then?
I thought the age thing may be why the vga picomite is so "popular".
Very Retro games, where as using glcd with touch seems more useful today.
spi glcd games would also be retro because of speed but more useful as a controller device with touch screen.
My grand kids never heard of basic. 8 year old uses lego and win to program a "robot".
Dunno what an h bridge is or pwm though.

Windows has been around for ages but last time I wrote a program to run on it was in Delphi.
The 8 year old is learning java and msql to design sites cos my son sends him to lessons,
and ice hockey and swimming.

@Amnesie:

I got my attention when you wrote about your book.    I found the self-build computer very exciting and bought the book. Unfortunately you did not write that it is volume 3 of "Mikroelektronik in der Amateurpraxis" - so I first ordered the wrong one (volume 1)... I think that I will try a replica of the computer...

Oh yes, I will be 57 years old this year...

 These all Asm 4004, 4040, 8008, 8080, Z80, 68000, Z8000, NS32532
 PDP-11/45 Fortran, Asm and Basic.
8XXX chips used in PC's at the time ASM, Borland Pascal, Fortran V then 77
Best to date is MMBasic on so many chips. Easy to write and read months later.

It has been FUN to see where we started and where we are going.
