Hexapawn was invented by Martin Gardner and explained in his May 1962 Mathematical Games article in Scientific American. It is a very simple game, but the point is to demonstrate machine learning where the 'computer' is made up from 24 matchboxes with some colored beads. My CMM2 Hexapawn program is an emulator that works the same as the matchbox-and-beads version but does it graphically instead of requiring real matchboxes.
