Buying ics - some years ago some arrived in tubes with an antistatic packing strip keeping the ic's from rattling around, a fairly robust and conductive black foam strip approx 6 mm wide and maybe2 mlllimeter or so thick, looks like a carbon black/polymer/rubber material. I think they have been replaced with conductive tube material now. As it happens those strips were very useful !!! Anyone know suppliers ? |

Look for "Desco 12250" ESD protective foam. Visit Vegipete's *Mite Library for cool programs. |

I do not where you can buy these strips, but I do why they were used. I was working in Nokia Capacitor Factory in Tampere Finland at years 1974 to 1985. At two first years the ICs were very fragile, they went broke quite easily, if you have not grounded. Every package of ICs were filled the strips. But about year 1986 every IC start to to last. I do not to use grounding wires when I was touching the circuits. The manufacturers has found the similar problem and found a solution to it. They have added a zener diode to power supply and it was a good solution. ![]() |

Yes thats a bit expensive !! I was after the tape/strip format instead of sheet, I suspect it is all overpriced though. |

Yes it looks like the substance is the same thing, but in bulk ..maybe it can be sliced into strips |
