Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

That's a bit too cryptic for me, Groggie. What $2.50 unit, what hyperlink button etc :)

Hi Bill.

The $2.50 unit is the hyperlink above called "melbnz's 2nd link"

When you are writing your reply in the reply box, click this button:

A box will pop-up:

Press ENTER when you have typed what you want the link to say.
Another box will pop-up - paste your actual link into that box, and press ENTER.

That will paste in the HTML code needed to show the link, and make it clickable for everyone.Edited by Grogster 2016-08-04

Ah, thanks. What threw me is that the unit in melbnz's second link is actually showing at $3.41 AUD, so I suspect (now) that you had a USD price, or maybe the merchant just upped the asking price. I certainly agree though that it is cheap enough to get a couple for experimentation.

Oh yeah, sorry about that. Never thought to mention that.

Internet currency - greenback.

In my money, it is about NZ$3.60

I've ordered a couple of those to play with - so cheap, why not.

Saw that after I had hit return. Sometimes this keyboard hibernates and when it wakes up, has missed a few keystrokes. Hardly worth taking over here, the economy is buggered. The Explorer 100 boards arrived safely late last week, thanks.

Cheers

Nice one.

Ignore my sense of humour - I see things like that and can't stop myself!

I know this thread is getting a bit old, but while I was ordering some more of these modules, I thought I would just point out that they are now only one third the price that they started out as when I started this thread:

Catalex MP3 player module for US$2.38

Pretty amazing. They are still my module of choice for now, and at that price, very hard to beat.

Have you used those modules, Bill?

EDIT: Crikey, these can be had on Aliexpress for one buck nineteen!
LINK

EDIT: Looks like they use the same XY5300 decoder chip, so the commands would be the same as the Catalex unit.

Hi Grogs

Yes I have used several of these modules to give my bots a voice.

They are the same as the SPE 035 supplied by picaxe and use the same codes.

I have used then with both MMbasic and picaxe.

What are you using to generate your voice files on that video?
I guess it is some kind of speech synthesis software, but I would like to know what it is please.

Bill - Could you please confirm for me that the spacing between the two rows of pins on this module, is 17.7mm or so? I have ordered some of these modules, but I would like to design a PCB footprint for it while I wait for them to arrive....

...those units are not mm...

This diagram is saying the module is 800mm square and 710mm between the pins with a 100mm pin-pitch - that simply can't be right.

The manual shows the incorrect sizes.
This one appears to be right.
