Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

Crikey, this thing is selling fast.

Element14 had about 1500 units a few days ago, now down to less then 50.

I grabbed one from Element14 before they sold out, as I have an account there, and it was $48 in our money(US$35) with free freight, as I was getting other bits too.

The Mk2 has a quad-core ARM v7 and 1GB of RAM on-board, but is still only $35 - incredible, really.

I read good things about it on the net, and YouTube has plenty of videos of people playing with them - they seem pretty zippy. Just don't take flash-photography of the thing when it is powered up!

I hear also that Windoze 10 will be able to run on the Pi, although, I don't know how well or in what form that will actually be. I expect it will be embedded Windoze 10, with the target market as Windoze 10 controlled devices etc.

Most Linux distro's seem to run quite good on the quad-core Pi. About the only thing it is lacking is more RAM and a 1Gb network, but then - you have to keep the cost under control somehow, so 1GB of RAM is still double the RAM of the previous Pi, and 100-speed network is not to horribly slow provided you are not trying to use the Pi as a fast NAS server or something.(although, there are plenty of videos of people using their Pi for NAS work too)

The Windows 10 is a bit misleading.
There will be a version of Windows10 for imbedded devices.
It is not clear how much support there will be for video displays etc. Only time will tell.

You will NOT be able to run 'Windows applications' on it.

I have a number of Pi's running here, one is a Pi2 and it certainly is faster than the earlier models.
None of them have displays attached although I will eventually get around to learning enough Python to make a GUI for some maximites. Eventually..

I'm quite keen to try the Pi-2 out on OpenElec. They have compiled an image for the Pi-2, which will take advantage of the new quad-core concept, so it should run very well on that hardware, me thinks.

...still can't really believe the price of this thing...

First steps:
The red power light should be on and steady.
The green light should flash as the card is being read.

The usual problems are not enough power - a good 1.5A or 2A 5V supply is best.
Trouble reading the card - try re- flashing or a different card.

I didn't try Noobs - I went straight to Rasparian.

I am not sure if you get an output on composite without configuring it.
You can always go straight to the Pi with TeraTerm etc. Your router should tell you what IP it was given.

I see what you mean. I read this same article the other day and assumed Win10 in general.

UPDATE: Element14 have sold out of the Pi2.

This is the Australian site of Element14, which supplies all of Australia and New Zealand, so I suppose when you considder that in combination with a known-popular product, I guess 1500 units in one week is nothing that special - perhaps.

Still, it impressed me!
