Forum Index : Site News : Access to TheBackShed.com is iffy for me

Right now, I'm not having a problem.  But about 50% of the time the site can't be found by my web browser.    It kind of looks like TheBackShed.com is disappearing from the DNS servers and no look up is possible.    But replacing the domain name with the last IP address that was successful doesn't seem to help either.

Am I just imagining this problem?   Is anybody else seeing a similar behavior?
Does anybody else have a suggestion to mitigate the problem?

Thanks!

Hi Ednedn

Could be several reasons.

I assume you are based in the USA as your profile says. Some members sign up and select a different country for some reason, and a few countries are blocked in our firewall.

Using some VPN's can cause this, it depends on how they are routing the data. The site lives on servers in Australia.

The internet has been flakey for a while lately, Trumps war has led to a spike in slow/blocked traffic and down time. There's a lot of DOS attacks going on, mostly from Iran.

See if there is a pattern, like times of the day when access is good, or bad.

I have noticed that I often have to try a few times lately.
It looks like a DNS issue to me.
I am on aussiebroadband and use their DNS

I haven't tried using your IP

I've been looking for a pattern over the last 3 months.   It is not dependent on the time of day.

I've been mostly in Houston and Salt Lake City and the roads in between those two cities.   It happens in all my locations, wherever I am.

I've switched browsers several times and it is not dependent on the browser.

I see this problem regardless of the machine I am on.  And all of my machines have vanilla network stacks with nothing weird going on.

I have a lot of network expertise from my career and work experience. Even so...   I don't have a clue what is happening.  It is kind of acting like IP traffic is funneled down to just one link between myself and TheBackShed.   And that one link is coming and going.

If this is WAN issue, there is probably not much any of us can do about it.   And as mentioned earlier, with all the cyber attacks happening globally, it is probably best to just wait it out.

Thanks All!

Another fail connection.
I had been away for a few days and could not ping thebackshed.com
I check a couple of "is just me" sites and was informed thebackshed is indeed down

Connected to jaq.com.au and they hey presto, thebackshed was reachable.

checked https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com and acording to them the backshed was still down.

I had about a 5 minute disconnect this afternoon whilst actively using the site.
The site is working for me right now, even though https://downforeveryoneorjustme.com is reporting it down

Been out since 3:00pm and now working at 10:40pm I guess this might have something to do with Aldi Mobile ( Telstra glitch) at this end for me.
