I did miss the fact that they did provide the script to create the desktop shortcut.
I am not sure how many flavours of Linux that the same script works for.

I think the 'terminal' commands in Linux are similar between distros. It is the GUI part where the differences show up.

I'm liking bbc basic for trixie rpi 400. new to me and does what a bbc micro wouldn't have done at the same speed. the demos are impressive. but what is it? the ball moves up the "stairs"

It is from an Escher painting. Tell us what happens when it gets to the top of the stairs. :-)

The .tar.gz you have highlighted is a ZIP folder containing the linux files. Extract them first then make a desktop shortcut to the executable as you did before.
However not everyone can get the executable to run, including me.

You need the RPi version of MMEdit for a RPi Currently not ready for use.

I once saw a 3D model of that Escher painting. You can actually make it in the physical world but you can only view it from one particular angle to get that illusion and someone walking on the stairs wouldn't work as they would either get stuck down a hole or fall off!

It wasn't that actual one, Stan, but yeah, that's how it was done. :)
