I see that RP produce their own special SD card for use in their PI's.
I am about to get a couple for experimenting on my new PI5(still in transit), but worndering if they are worth the hype?

I've always just used bog-standard SD cards on earlier PI's, but the PI5 is a bit of a new beast.  They are very cheap at $6 for the 32GB one, so I'll probably just get these, but I would be interested to hear from any other members on this.

I can only recommend these. I immediately noticed a difference in speed, as I saved and retrieved data from these. Have been using these for a while now and am very satisfied.

On the Pi5 use an NVMe M2 SSD; massively faster than any SDcard. There are various nice boxes around for the Pi5 with all the wiring for the SSD to connect to the PCIe port on the Pi5. I use the Argon Neo M.2 NVMe PCIe.

I have the 64K variant. It's a good card but no better than many other good quality cards out there. If you can get it at a price comparable to a good SanDisk, let's say, then go for it. Just don't pay a premium for the label.

I do have a case coming from WS - they do some nice cases too.
The one I got was option "C" here: (internal PCB for M.2 SSD)

Looks like a nice case but its HUGE. At least double the size of the bare Pi5.

Yep, and that's one of the reasons I like it.  

I have a burning hate of those PI cases that try to squeeze everything into the smallest possible space.  Having a little room to move, makes the assembly process much easier and less stressful.

Don't get me wrong - there is a time and place for when it needs to be as small as possible, but in my build, that is not the case(pardon the pun!) - I'll hopefully be replacing a full-size PC desktop case with this thing, which is only a fraction of THAT size.

I boot from an official 512GB Raspberry Pi M.2 card. As long as you have a hat for connecting it, it's simple to set up. Heck, even I did it!
Just prepare the card with Raspberry Pi Imager then go into the Raspberry Pi setup program and change the boot device. Reboot and enjoy the higher speed. There's no need to manually edit configuration files anymore.
