My daughter has a laptop that was upgraded to Win 11 from Win 10. For over a year it has been trying to install the 25H2 update without success, it gets to 62% and fails.
I've tried looking up the error number ox8007001f with no luck. It has 238Gb of free space. I even reinstalled Win 11. I did eeverything I could to disable windows update withou success.

I googled the error number '0x8007001f windows 11' and there was a lot of hits, mainly 'device attached not functioning correctly' which tends to point to a driver error or a corrupted system files or broken user profile.

All had further info on possible solutions.

I Googled it as well, I tried everything I could. I would be happy just to turn updates off but I've been unable to do that. I'll try doing it in the registry again and see how I go.

I just disabled update in Services.msc it was set to manual, I did this before but not correctly apparently, I'll see what happens now.

so is the computer continually re-downloading the update after each fail? if so, and many other machines are doing likewise, i wonder how much impact this sort of issue (collectively) has on internet traffic worldwide.

Yes, probably a lot. Maybe it just checks to see if has already been downloaded. I don't know where it resides after download so I can't check how many downloads are there. I have now disabled update so I'll see what happens.

I had something similar; every time I rebooted, Windows would try to update. I would wait an eternity and then it announced that the update failed and was reverting back. I searched this and the solution was to remove the update that was trying to install but I have forgotten what steps I took. IIRC, the update came again, at a later date and installed successfully.

yea the laptop I'm using said I had updates and it said it was security patch's then I found a don't switch off as a new win11 is being installed so no choice to back out. Thankful;ly it it go smooth and had no problems but I am touching wood as we speak
