Hello, newb to the shed.
Intrigued by the great projects.

Being in Canada not too optimistic about finding cores but:
I do have a chum heading to Asia and will be visiting appropriate shops/kiosks.
He has offered to seek any obscure parts I may want.(within reason?)

Suggestions from those experienced, HY5608 ? anything else?

Thanks
D

Hi

Where in Canada are you located? (I am in the Toronto area).

In terms of the smaller electronic components, I purchased most of the components from LCSC .  Although shipping is shown as $19.95us, on my last order the shipping was discounted as my order grew in size. I paid ~$8US shipping and most of the $ on the order was for the Mosfets (I purchased 30).  I also didn't have to pay the GST (13%) tax that I would have to pay if I was buying from say Digikey.  (I did buy some parts from Digikey though)

If I had someone bringing some parts back from China, I would find out how much weight they would tolerate.  The MS225 cores that are needed for the primary inductor are pretty inexpensive on Alibaba, but the shipping is expensive.  Maybe some solar circuit breakers if they were inexpensive (find a brand on amazon which is decently rated).  It also depends on what components you need to source.  The biggest sourcing problem for me was the transformer(s), but they would be really heavy.

Formerly North GTA now umm...east of Scugog?

If I look up MS225 I find a 2inch core? Can you point me to one?

I thought there was a problem with fake mosfets and LCSC would only sell these for their assembly?

I got the batteries that I used in my build from Port Perry, which isn't too far from you.

10 pack AS225 Cores

It's hard to find non-fake parts on Aliexpress or EBAY.  No-one that I have heard of has received fake parts from LCSC.

Keep in mind that this core size is typically best bang for the buck and can be found in other inverters so can be repurposed.  Larger sized cores can support thicker wire and perhaps be packaged better.  KeepIS is using ~10 stacked MS225 cores to build each 20uH inductor.  Check out his thread for pictures.

Dex is using much larger cores -you may wish to check out his thread.  For example, a KS520125 core has a 3" internal diameter and 2 of them with 7 turns would give you a 20uH choke that would support 8kw.

Thanks for the heads up on this Davros, however I already inquired about this a few weeks ago.  Unfortunately the transformer only has a 120v output, and for some reason it has a bunch of additional taps.  So the core would need to be completely rewound.  In addition, the 4kw rating is not a continuous rating. I don't think anything else from the unit is useful to me.  The seller seemed to think that $85 was a great deal.

Well sadly my bud could not find the cores local and in-china shipping wasn't all that cheap, so no point him lugging those back home.

Now he found Mosfets that were very cheap and they claimed to be tested pulls, upon delivery the were new -so likely fakes.
Anyways he tried
