I am ideally looking for a SMPSU that is able to be adjusted over the o/p range 10V to 24V at about 80A, with an i/p of 240V, 50Hz.

The adjustable ones I've found so far have a much more limited o/p range, and I would have to buy at least 2 to cover this o/p range, or are somewhat expensive.

My absolute minimum requirement is 11.1V and 21.5V at 80A, and 2 x 12V units with about a +/-10% adjustment could do this - IF they could be connected in series for the 21.5V o/p, or used singly for the 11.1V spec.

Is there a special requirement of a supply to enable a series connection like this,
or would any SMPSU be capable.

Nothing so constant as change.

As long as the outputs are floating it will work.
Some DIN rail units intended for use in switchboards have the negative terminal tied to mains earth internally.

@Bowden_P.  About 6 years ago, I connected two oldish HP 12V, 60A SMPS units together hoping to get 24V (Obviously). Unfortunately, they didn't last. Stopped working. The outputs were isolated.

I suspect that they probably each needed their own residual load, maybe an amp or two and I should have made sure that the load was switched on after both units had been powered up & settled down.

BTW, I went out into my shed to look for them to see what they were (I don't tend to chuck things out) & in the process found some large 12V C/O contactors I'd been wondering where they had been safely put. So thanks for the question.

I suspected that if the outputs were fully isolated the series connection would be OK. If there was some safety feature however, to stop the output floating too far from earth then the idea would fail.

Would this be the case with your 2 supplies Chopperp?
