I am running out of sprites. Otherwise I would also work on the "snake" and bring back lady-frog and animate the crocodile. We'll have to do with what we have for now.

EDIT: nay, we have 64 sprites (not 32), so now I can go completely wild...

Volhout

You can get 4 sprite slots if you only use two sprites for the frog horizontally and vertically and mirror the sprites when outputting them for the opposite direction. With Ladyfrog, you can even get 8 free sprites.
I didn't really understand the function at the time.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the tip. Good idea.
Here is b8_6, where turtles and crocodile should work correct for this level.
I think next I'll have to build levels, and study what lady frog does.

By special request, I have converted the music from the frequency tables into Mod files.
I haven’t had the time to convert all the melodies to MOD yet.
But here are three of them, plus a MOD file with just sound effects and no music
in all MODS:
Sample no.
4  Coin in-Start
5  Hop
6  Landing Safe
7  Die Road
8  Die Water
9  Free Life
10 Pickup Mate

Frogsnd.zip
I think that’s a good point to start.
In case you’re interested, to get as close as possible to that vintage sound, for the instruments I used the 3xOscillator in FL Studio, square waves (two of which were slightly detuned), and sampled the note C in different octaves
Cheers

Thank you Martin,

But it frogger is currently not on my first todo list. If you want to take a shot, you are welcome to do so.
A lot Will became easier with MOD files.

Maybe this winter I may pick it up again.

The frogger in the ZIP that I made for Peters Fuzix project is the latest. Later than b9.

P.S. First there was VGA, then GameMite, then USB kb/mouse/controllers, then HDMI. And many jump on the PiComp 3, so adaptation of all programs games etc for this platform is needed. And I don’t even have one.
So other have to step in. Or miss the fun…. I do not want to take this task. Been doing it long enough. I am working on my OWN projects now. Not maintaining anymore. Frogger is different. I may look at it this winter. As well as porting Maxitrek to GameMite.

That wasn’t a request to you
Of course, a lot of things could be programmed differently – and better – today, but at the time it was written, the Pico was not able to play MOD files.
If, back when I was writing Picovaders, I’d already known how to incorporate user-defined character sets, it would have made the work a lot easier
