Notice. New forum software under development. It's going to miss a few functions and look a bit ugly for a while, but I'm working on it full time now as the old forum was too unstable. Couple days, all good. If you notice any issues, please contact me.

You might want to recheck the balance of your blades and hub assembly after you rivet your blades on. I know when I changed the blade pitch after balancing I had to re-balance?

This should do the trick.

16mm2 cable paid a little over scrap value at $1.20/m or $7 per KG.

Resistance was measured at 0.2Ohms for 100M
thus
I calculate a 6.4% loss at 20A
or 3.2% drop at 10A for my 100m (300') run.
(thanks Cameron for the link to the wire size calculator)

Should be heaps even for the dual stator.

place was called RE-Scrap Australia Pty Ltd
at 130 Dynon Rd West Melbourne,
the guy has heaps of various cable and its new but somehow ended up as scrap.

BTW where I'm having the trouble is where they have been previously bent, need that neat look.

IS this re-wire OK?
this is intended as 7x2p delta

still new to this so much easier to diagnose a no-output stator on the ground

That would be a 2X7C ( 2 times 7 coils in series )Delta, we dont use P anymore, causing too much confusion.

I think its OK, the back wire is a little hard to follow. You'll know as soon as you slip on the hub and try to turn it. Put a meter across each pair of terminals and you should get the same AC readings when you spin by hand.

Great tip,
spin the motor over by hand and if no good will behave like its been shorted
I still cant work out why but when I rewired again without being smart, this rewire much uglier but clearer with separate colours and works

Found the one that I just rewired today at a whitegoods repair shop in their trash area! win win! a good clean one
next question is this worth bothering with or destined for the bin?
Cracked stator 1

this stator has some corrosion on the windings and is cracked also

The cracks are not a problem, most of them have some cracks.
The coils are a bit of a worry,,check out the resistance of each phase,,if they are the same then it's only surface corrosion ,(from detergent). wash it with some mineral turps ,sponge it dry and check with a magnifing glass,, Now ,if you see bare copper wire , then you might like to unwind that portion ,solder a new length in ,,heatshrink it and , that should be as new again.

Cheers Bruce i'll give that a run, due to not wanting to wreck a good one, I rounded the poles a little on this one to see if i could without damaging the coils.
if its ok I'll give it a run

Ahh F&P I really had no idea how many millions of these are out there, everytime I go out for a drive I score a couple more.

Stripped the one with corrosion and answer to this is
STUFFED !!
But 1.3KG copper!!!!!
now interestingly enough the scrap rate for insulated copper is about half what it is for good clean copper
thus theoretically if I scrap another 15 of these (at 1hr each to strip mind you) I'll have enough scrap copper to exchange for 200M of 16mm copper cable (insulated) and everyone will be happy......

Today I got my first 60 series and the thinking begins again.......

It doesn't seem obvious at first, perhaps the site needs more data, it tell us the different types of stators out there and the different re-wire options but does not tell us any more.

My thinking is this
60 has more turns than 80 which has more turns than 100.
thus 60 High voltage low amps, low cutin
80 lower voltage more amps and so on

80s in 2x7c in star produces more/less than
60s in 2x7c in delta

.....enlighten me !

Now that I'm getting better at finding them (now have got 6 including the stripped one and the one on the mill.)
I can be a little more picky at the ones i use.

I actually threw away a magnet ring and stripped stator today ....
and to think the first one I found I cherished as gold...Edited by KarlJ 2009-11-28
