No as that is in the automatic mode section I have never use before and not sure what the other setting there do or should be set to. is it saft to check that and try again. I assume there is a boot loader that dose not get over written?

Ok, what do you mean?

There are other tools. If you're desperate, try them :)

I haven't managed to really badly upset any STM32 during flashing for 9 years :)

I did not hear back so I just tried the full chip erase and it worked a charm. Thank you very much. Have a great day.

Ok, what do you mean? I guess it is not technically bricked as the flashing prosses is still accusable The programing software connects to the CMM2 I select ether the new or old firmware and I watch it as it programs the system and verifies it just like it did on the Gen 2 and the other Gen 1. It says it was successful and I shut it off and set the jumper back to boot and all I get is a blank screen. What am I missing and I do not know about those tools you mentioned. Thanks for any help you can give.

Hi, on sunday I updated my Gen. 1 CMM2 from "CMM2V5.07.02b6.bin" to "CMM2V5.07.02b9.bin" using the STM32Cube Programmer and an USB-A to USB-A cable.

The upload and verification went well (2 Dialogs) but after switching back to "Flash" Mode of the CPU and starting the CMM2 with USB power the screen was black. I checked the situation using an osci, measured voltages etc. There was no signal on the VGA lines and no signal to the keyboard, but the red power LED of the CPU was on! I looks like the processor was just stitting there doing nothing. Was it bricked?

I checked the situation the whole day, re-solderd the connections, looked at the PCB connections many times, refreshed old firmware - nothing helps.

Then I took the second "automatic" mode of the STM32Cube programmer and checked the "full erase" in that mode. This time the erase took longer and after uploading and verification I disconnected it with the same procedure as before. The CMM2 was back and running well!

So my impression is that the erase mode of the normal single board flashing is different than the erase mode of the "automatic" mode. When using the automatic mode one has to stop the process after succeful verification and disconnection because in this mode the flashing software will ask for the next device to flash.
